Six UNMC College of Nursing faculty members were named to the NNA's 40 under 40 annual list.
 
College of Nursing Division highlights
Kearney Division
Third-semester nursing students at the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division, along with students from the UNMC College of Allied Health, gave away teddy bears and provided information on farm safety, immunizations, nutrition and how to listen with a stethoscope. The CAHP students did physical exams and X-rayed the bears.
UNMC CON Kearney Division implemented a learning community based on Maslow’s Theoretical Framework for first semester traditional BSN students. The results were an average improvement of 13.5% increased student retention/success. The team of four faculty members presented their experience and findings at the Nurse Educator Conference in the Rockies in July.

Northern Division
On, Sept. 22, first-semester students at the UNMC College of Nursing Northern Division attended the PATCH Health Fair in Norfolk. The fair is an annual community event that offers health screenings and health education. UNMC students completed approximately 100 blood pressure readings and provided education about dealing with and preventing high blood pressure.
On. Sept. 13, the Northern Division hosted a Chamber Coffee Call to highlight current work being done at the division and various technologies available to UNMC students. Cathy Tierney, EdD, spoke to members of the Norfolk Area Chamber about UNMC's nursing pathways program and the Norfolk community. The event was held both in person and on Facebook Live.
Lincoln Division
The UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division hosted a job fair for all nursing students on Oct. 7. Students were able to chat with employers about job opportunities, summer internships and nursing-related careers they can find after graduation. Door prizes also were given out.
Students at the Lincoln Division participated in HEROES training. The day included lessons on emergency response, medical field procedures and a live emergency simulation. The simulation challenged students to respond to a situation that resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Those selected as responders had to care for the injured and prioritize response in the field while dealing with some unexpected challenges.
West Nebraska Division
On Sept. 30, UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division students and many faculty and staff assisted with the 12th annual Monument Marathon. The West Nebraska Division was a sponsor for the event and staffed an information/blood pressure booth at the expo the day before and an aid station during the race. The helps raise scholarship funds for Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) students, many of whom are completing their UNMC nursing prerequisites.
UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division students celebrated the beginning of their nursing journeys with the traditional White Coat Ceremony on Sept. 22

UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division students assisted with the first Horizon Christian Music Festival Labor Day weekend by manning the first aid and cooling booth in conjunction with the Scotts Bluff County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). There were approximately 2,000 to 5,000 participants over the two-day event.
All divisions
The Faculty Practice Committee completed the Tripartite Mission Outcomes Survey, which collects data that highlights the impact of nursing practice in areas of service, teaching and scholarship. The survey had 93 respondents. The FPC is developing goals for 2023-2024 that will focus on distributing survey data and spotlighting the contributions nursing faculty are making in nursing practice.
