College of Nursing Division highlights
Northern Division
Population-centered care students from the UNMC College of Nursing - Northern Division in Norfolk recently packed boxes for the Orphan Grain Train. The Orphan Grain Train is a Christian volunteer network that ships donated food, clothing, medical supplies and other needed items to people in 71 countries, including the United States. They serve Native American Indian reservations, Texas-Mexico border missions, help combat poverty in Appalachia and support several food pantries, homeless shelters and veterans’ facilities. They also have provided aid to residents of Maui during the wildfires and to victims of tornadoes and hurricanes both in the United States and internationally.
The population-centered care course at the Northern Division conducted an interprofessional educational event with Wayne State College students with an emphasis on human services. Each combined group of students reviewed a case scenario and created an interdisciplinary treatment plan for their patient.
The Northern Division sponsored two families during the holiday season through the Salvation Army’s Christmas giving program.

The event had a cancer focus this year and was sponsored largely by the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, as well as some local support.

Guests had the opportunity to visit health booths and receive free or reduced-cost screenings. For more information about this year's event, read the UNMC Today story.
