Canvas FAQs and Important Information
The Innovations in Learning team has created a Canvas FAQs page that houses all of our important, Canvas-specific information.

The FAQ includes information on questions like "when will my live course get added to Canvas?" And "How do I make my sandbox visible to students?" (spoiler alert: you don't.)

Please consult the FAQ page if you have any questions while you're getting ready for the Fall 2019 semester!

As always, feel free to email us with any additional questions at [email protected] .

Looking for student resources?
We also have an Online Student Resources course available to all students through self-enrollment. This course has information on Canvas, NetTutor, Library resources, Collaborate Ultra, Kaltura, and more. It's a great resource for all students, with special care taken to support fully-online students. The self-enrollment link is available on the Canvas logins page.

Note: Live courses come into Canvas 30 days prior to the start of the semester. Keep an eye out for them given we're in the 30-day window. Please remember, the integration process takes a full day, so some courses may come in during the morning and some may not be in Canvas until the evening.
Reminder: Kaltura Capture replaces Kaltura MediaSpace
With the Kaltura transition, users will no longer create new Kaltura videos by going through D2L or the Kaltura MediaSpace link on the UWP logins page.

All Kaltura videos will be made directly through the My Media option in Canvas (located under Account on the black navigation bar).

Along with this change, users must update the Kaltura desktop recording software. To do this, you can uninstall the Kaltura CaptureSpace desktop recorder from your device. If you're not sure which version you have, it won't hurt to uninstall the software just in case.

Once uninstalled, you can click on My Media under your profile picture in Canvas. Then you can click on Add New -> Kaltura Capture. This will give you the option to download the latest desktop recorder. The recorder image will become the blue camera image on the left, rather than the multi-colored firework that Kaltura used previously.
Book A Session in Our New Video Studio!
Innovations in Learning has been busy this summer creating a multimedia room for instructional use. The room features high-end camera equipment and video editing software. The suite is designed for recording lectures and welcome videos.

In addition to the camera and editing equipment, Innovations also purchased a glass light board. This technology allows instructors to demo on the board while also lecturing to students. The camera's technology flips the image on the board so it's readable both to the instructor writing and the students watching the video.

Check out our quick preview, and email [email protected] if you're interested in learning more about the board or booking some recording time over the summer!

The space is also available for high-end welcome videos and other lecture captures, with or without the glass light board.
The Teaching Commons | Backward Design
As an instructor, are you familiar with the concept of backward design ?

You may have guessed this already, but backward design refers to building the course "backward," starting with identified learning goals and working backwards to then create assessments and activities.

This can be an effective way to ensure students are meeting the desired goals of your course.

If you're interested in learning more, please visit The Teachin g Commons from Georgetown University . They even use a video from UW-Madison on their information page.
Canvas Tier 1 Support available 24/7
Instructors, please remember that Canvas Tier 1 Support is available 24/7, 365 days a year to answer any questions you may have about the learning management system.

Our administrative rights have changed in the migration from D2L to Canvas, so a lot of what we were able to assist with in the past has been limited.

Tier 1 Support is available through the Help menu on the black navigation bar within Canvas. You have the option to chat (instant message), call, or email Tier 1 Support.

Support is also available for your students, so please direct your students to Tier 1 Support if they have any questions or need assistance.
