Videos in the Online Classroom - Library Resource
Moving course content, such as videos and DVDs, from in-person to online is rarely straightforward. Fair use, copyright laws and accessibility policies are just a few of the important considerations when linking or embedding content in the online classroom. The library knows high quality streaming videos can add to learning and engagement and we’ve worked hard to provide faculty with access to thousands of streaming video options. Looking for streaming media that is budget-friendly and plays nice with Canvas? Visit the library’s faculty webpage to learn more about our streaming media policies, workflows and short helpful videos.

Captioning Request Form & Self-Captioning in Kaltura
UW-Parkside has two options for closed captioning media. The first is to submit a Captioning Request Form through Innovations in Learning. Media content will be sent to a third party captioning service called 3Play Media and within 7-14 days, videos will appear in Canvas with closed captions and a downloadable PDF transcript. Videos captioned through 3Play Media are about 99% accurate, but there's a fee associated with each caption request (paid by the university).

The second option is to use the self-caption feature in Kaltura. This is the recommended method of captioning for short videos, but self-captioning requires some manual editing to ensure accuracy. These self-captioned videos are about 85% accurate but can be done for free. If you're captioning short videos and have the time to edit the captions, the self-caption tool in Kaltura works well.
Self-Enroll into the Instructional Technology Resources & Tips Course
This course was built to provide faculty and staff with a one-stop location for instructional technology tutorials, documentation, and up-to-date information on the tools Parkside has available for teaching and learning.

This course is also designed to highlight innovative teaching techniques and showcase the variety of ways we can teach online using the various third party tools integrated with Canvas.

Self-Enroll into the Instructional Resource Sharing Course
This course is much more informal and was built as an outlet to share ideas about teaching and learning on campus. Whether you're looking for ways to effectively use the discussion board in an online class, or wanting to share an innovative project your students are doing this semester, this course is designed with those ideas in mind.

You'll notice it's almost empty right now, and that's because we're waiting for all of you to self-enroll and start some new Discussions!
