Video Lectures and Reusing Recorded Synchronous Sessions with Student Information
With the rapid move to online, a lot of lectures were held synchronously online and recorded through Collaborate Ultra, Teams, Zoom, or WebEx. Since there are now recordings of lecture material, instructors are asking if they can use those recordings in their upcoming courses instead of having to recreate the same lecture recording over again.
Is this allowed?
Instructors are able to reuse lecture recordings if student names and/or faces are not visible in the recording. Being able to tie a specific student to a particular course is considered a FERPA violation, and therefore showing student names and/or faces to a class containing new students is not recommended.

What do I do if my recording contains names and/or faces of students?
If you wish to reuse a recording from a synchronous lecture, please contact innovations@uwp.edu with a link to the video recording. The Innovations in Learning Team can assess the video and discuss possibilities as to whether edits can be made to the video to protect student information. If edits are not possible, the team will provide suggestions and assist in getting the recording ready for use.
Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Contract Has Expired - Zoom now Video Conferencing Tool
The UW System contract with Blackboard Collaborate Ultra expired on June 30th.

Starting during the Fall 2021 semester, Zoom will be the System's new method of video conferencing.

If you are teaching a summer course, you will not be able to use Collaborate Ultra in your course. Instead, it is recommended by System that you utilize Microsoft Teams for synchronous meetings with students. All UW campuses have access to Teams through Canvas. At Parkside, you may also use WebEx for course sessions, but WebEx is not integrated within the learning management system.

Please visit the UW System KnowledgeBase to learn more about the transition to Zoom and how to ensure all of your Collaborate Ultra recordings are saved in Kaltura prior to the June 30th cutoff date.

Reminder: Respondus Contract Expiring, Honorlock Still Available
Parkside will not be renewing the contract with Respondus for its LockDown Browser proctoring software. This means that Respondus LockDown Browser will no longer be available after July 31st, 2021.

We will continue to have Honorlock’s proctoring services for Canvas classic quizzes going forward. If you need assistance creating new quizzes or using Honorlock, please email Innovations@uwp.edu to setup a consultation.
Fall Courses Available 90 Days Prior to Semester Start Date
As a reminder, courses will appear on your Canvas Dashboard 90 days prior to the start of the semester. That means you can expect to see your Fall 2021 courses in Canvas soon. Courses will be located at the bottom of your Dashboard in the "Unpublished" section with the course labeling PKS Fall 21-22.

If you have any questions about the course integration process through Solar, or if you'd like content from a previous semester copied into your new Fall courses once they're available, please contact the Innovations in Learning staff.

Major in you.
