Public Input Session Sign-ups

As you may be aware, the Cedar Rapids Community School District has initiated its search for a new superintendent. To counsel us through this important process, we have retained the services of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a consulting firm that specializes in assisting school boards with the consideration of candidates for superintendent.

A key step in this process is to identify the characteristics we will be seeking in our new superintendent. We would greatly appreciate your input and assistance with this important initiative.

Here are the four zoom input sessions taking place. Each session is limited to 30 participates. Please click on the dates below to register.

In addition to the above listed Zoom sessions and the below listed survey option, earlier this week CRCSD sent invites for in-person sessions to the following groups: CRCSD staff, CRCSD families and students, civic leaders, community partners, community leaders, and local union contact for forwarding to members.

If you can't attend one of the input sessions, you can provide your input via this survey link. This survey is designed to gather your perceptions of the school district and the importance of various characteristics found in effective superintendents. The information will be used to determine the desired characteristics of the new Superintendent. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Sincerely,

The CRCSD Board of Education

From Rooks and Pawns, to Queens and Kings, the Game of Chess at Metro High School

Since at least 2005, the game of chess has been played in classrooms at Metro High School. Whether it's before school or after school and especially during the lunch hour, the boards come out, the pieces are placed, and the strategy happens.

This video shows several match ups in action and the focus displayed by students.

Whether you are a new player or an expert, these strategic moves give students mini life lessons as they move each piece in working towards the goal of “checkmate!”

Franklin Quarterly Cuts

The tradition continues; one Franklin Middle School classroom buzzes with clippers as barbers cut fresh haircuts on students. But this month, there was a twist! Special guest Kimberly Carter, Kenwood Leadership Academy principal, shared her talents in braiding students' hair.

Fall Weather Fun

This week, mother nature shared just the right amount of Fall sunshine and warmth. As a result, it was an excellent opportunity for students to get outside and soak up the picture-perfect weather. Students enjoying outside recess during this first week of November is precisely what our cameras caught.
