How do Assessment Vouchers work?

Each Assessment Voucher provides $300 directly to the contractor after meeting the following requirements:

  • The homeowner must participate in Home Upgrade in The Energy Network, SCE and/or SoCalGas territory.
  • The contractor must include a line item on the customer invoice indicating "Comprehensive Energy Assessment" showing the $300 discount to the homeowner.
  • Contractor must complete an in-home Comprehensive Energy Assessment and provide a report to the homeowner. 
    • The in-home Comprehensive Energy Assessment shall be based on building science principles (heavily influenced by BPI standards) and will include: 
      • The use of appropriate equipment in diagnosing opportunities for improving energy efficiency and minimizing health and safety hazards.
      • A review with the homeowner/occupant(s), if available, about any concerns they may have related to the performance of their home.
      • Immediate disclosure to homeowner/occupant(s) when any suspected emergency or urgent health and safety hazard or situation is present in the home.
    • The report will include:
      • Results of diagnostic tests and visual/sensory inspections including a summary of the diagnostic testing and inspections and their purpose.
      • Information on energy programs, incentives, regulations and energy costs relevant to prioritized recommendations for improving the home.
      • A baseline energy use analysis (when energy-consumption records are available).
      • A comprehensive set of recommended health and safety measures, warranted by the site-specific circumstances.
      • A comprehensive set of recommended energy efficiency measures, warranted by the site-specific circumstances.
      • Advice to the homeowner/occupants on user-controlled energy reduction strategies.
How do you redeem an Assessment Voucher? 
Contractors can redeem the Assessment Voucher online after the Home Upgrade project is completed, separate from the Contractor Portal. Visit http://tenres.com/voucher.

To redeem an Assessment Voucher, contractors must submit:
  • A valid (unexpired) promotional code. Submissions received after the expiration date will be invalid and void.
  • A copy of the Notice of Incentive Approval email from The Energy Network, SCE or SoCalGas, verifying the project is complete.
  • A copy of the customer invoice showing the $300 discount to the homeowner for the "Comprehensive Energy Assessment."

Both Home Upgrade and Advanced Home Upgrade projects are eligible. In addition, projects submitted to The Energy Network and ICF are both eligible.

Energy Upgrade California┬« Home Upgrade provides assistance and incentives for home improvement projects that can reduce energy use and make homes more comfortable. This statewide program is managed locally by utilities and regional energy networks and directed by the California Public Utilities Commission in collaboration with the California Energy Commission. Funding comes from utility customers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Incentives are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are effective until funding is expended or the program is discontinued.
