As Lead Now Flint & Genesee gears up for the launch of its sixth cohort, the yearlong leadership development program is seeking proposals for the cohort’s community impact project.

The Request for Proposal (RFP) is open to 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies and should fulfill a specific community need in Genesee County.

The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren grabbed the No. 1 ranking in Michigan Golf Journal’s Top 10 Stories of 2019. Article excerpt:

Jack Nicklaus, musician Kid Rock, former Red Wing Henrik Zetterberg and country singer Dierks Bentley gave the crowds in Grand Blanc one of the most special shows ever in Michigan golf when they paired up for a 9-hole team charity challenge. Nicklaus’ wonderful play in the very twilight of his career produced dozens of “Jack, Jack, Jack” chants from the estimated 10,000+ crowd following the group from hole-to-hole – before Nicklaus does what Jack does: draining a 55-foot chip-in from off the green to break the team tie at theatrically jam-packed 18 th hole. The Golden Bear and friends put on a great show from one incredible Saturday afternoon in the Great Lakes State.

This year's tournament will be held July 27 to Aug. 2.

As we return to work from the holiday break, I am excited about what’s ahead in the new year.

For example, 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of YouthQuest, and the Education & Training team at the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce is planning ways to celebrate a decade of youth programming in Flint.

Our YQ Biz partnerships with local organizations continue to strengthen. This spring, we are partnering with 100K Ideas to better facilitate expos and encourage youth entrepreneurship.

When David Gaines was young, he didn’t envision taking over the family business, Gaines Jewelry.

“I wanted nothing to do with the jewelry business,” says Gaines. “Because to me, working at my father’s business as a teenager, it was just cleaning counters and getting everyone lunch.”

But after he graduated from high school, Gaines gained a new perspective on the business.
