National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week: Honoring the dispatchers who keep RTD's system safe | When customers contact Transit Watch to report suspicious behavior or unsafe activity, the first people who respond are RTD’s police dispatchers. These colleagues field communications around the clock to support customers and RTD employees across the agency’s service area. Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which began Sunday, recognizes dispatchers for their crucial, behind-the-scenes role in assisting the community every day of the year. | | Reflections from some of RTD’s public safety dispatchers
“No one does this job alone. It takes coordination, trust, and constant collaboration across departments to respond effectively in the moment.”
— Michael Finnell, Lead Public Safety Dispatcher
| | |
"This is an ever-changing role; no two shifts are the same, no two calls are the same. We are constantly learning and growing as a team to better ourselves and enhance the service we provide to our fellow RTD employees and the community."
— Mary Cruz, Lead Public Safety Dispatcher
| |
|
"Working as a public safety dispatcher gives me an opportunity to connect directly with the community so that I can help build trust in RTD as the leader in mobility. Being able to work with the public and solve their issues or help them in a time of need is incredibly rewarding."
— Ryan Gerard, Public Safety Dispatcher
| |
|
"Working as a public safety dispatcher for RTD, I handle emergency and non-emergency calls by gathering information through a variety of systems. I have the opportunity to coordinate with officers and partner agencies to ensure a safe and effective response. In my role, I get to support RTD's values and maintain a safe transit environment for the communities we serve."
— Ian Weir, Public Safety Dispatcher

Share your thoughts about the Employee Ideas Program
RTD is launching a new Employee Ideas Program, and employees are invited to submit their thoughts and share ideas that can help improve how RTD operates.
The agency is seeking the opinions and experiences of RTD employees to gather valuable organizational insights. By sharing them, staff can help make work simpler, smarter, and more efficient in a challenging time.
Ideas are being sought that support or further:
- Strategic Plan priorities, initiatives, or current tactics
- Cost savings
- Waste reduction (e.g., time, re-work)
- Process improvement (employee or customer-facing processes)
How it works
Submission
Use the online ideas form to share ideas and indicate whether you want to remain in the feedback loop to monitor status or participate in implementation efforts.
Review
All ideas will be reviewed for alignment with RTD's Strategic Priorities, impact, and feasibility by the Leadership Team and members of the Employee Ownership Task Force each month.
Selection
Ideas with the strongest potential for implementation and the highest impact on the agency will be prioritized for further exploration and implementation. Ideas not immediately selected will be documented for potential future implementation.
