RTD staff take part in APTA's Sustainability/Operations Planning and Scheduling Workshop

APTA’s Sustainability/Operations Planning and Scheduling Workshop came to Denver this week – and RTD’s people, projects and system were on full display for the hundreds of attendees who participated! Presenting RTD- and Denver-specific information at the host session on Monday, from left to right, were Tegan Rice, Jonathan Wade, Clara Bechtel, Doug Monroe, Alicia Leitgeb, Susan Wood and Justin Begley (from City and County of Denver).

RTD now has four homelessness outreach coordinators

Pictured left to right: homelessness outreach coordinators Ryan Berger, Alton Reynolds, Iasmin Lafleur and Karen Chenault

RTD has grown its homelessness outreach program from one outreach coordinator in 2022 to four as of May 2025 to take a more proactive approach to address loitering or encampments at RTD stops and stations. Through a sector-based approach, each coordinator is assigned to an area across the district to offer basic to deeper resources to those experiencing homelessness.

Colleagues tee off at annual employee-led golf tournament

RTD employees and their friends and family took to the greens at the Evergreen Golf Course on July 26 for an employee-led golf tournament.

Sixty-four employees spent the day hitting the links in a friendly competition. Employees competed as teams of four against one another in a shotgun format. After the tournament, participants and their loved ones enjoyed an after-party at Genesee Pub and BBQ and were entered into a raffle for prizes.

Denver7 profiles micromobility pilot selected for RTD funding

As detailed in the Partnership Program announcement made last week, RTD is investing in a pilot program that subsidizes the first mile of micromobility trips on Lime and Bird devices that end at the Decatur•Federal or University of Denver light rail stations. The First Mile Free program was brought to RTD for consideration by West Corridor Transportation Management Association and is the idea of a University of Denver graduate student. Clarence Pauls, Facilities Maintenance Supervisor (15 years)

“I’ve grown up in Colorado my entire life, on the northern edge of Denver. The funniest part about all this is I would do anything to not venture into downtown. I was more of a country boy, so the city just didn’t seem that appealing to me. But now that I’ve been down here, I really enjoy it."

The next phase of the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project begins in September, with a focus on replacing the rail at the intersection of Kalamath Street and Speer Boulevard. Bookmark the link below to the project page, which will be refreshed often with updates.

Heidi Hansen; Cpl. Joshua Hellweg; officers Jonah Atkinson, Corey Averill, Ghaith Hameed, Waylon Johnson, Ceci Martinez, Jonathan Mendez, Corey Mitchell, Rob Sobek and Jalen Vasquez; K-9 Milo; and Cheryl Webb, Executive Assistant to the Transit Police Department.
