RTD is celebrating New Year’s Eve with zero fare service. For the 16th consecutive year, this initiative encourages Denver metro residents and visitors to celebrate safely and responsibly by taking advantage of transit to enjoy the festivities. Through a longstanding partnership with Molson Coors, customers can use RTD services at no cost to them from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. Jan. 1, 2025.
Weathering the storm: How RTD responds to different severe weather events | Denver has an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. However, the other 65 days are anything but sunshine and roses. The city’s unique geographical location — with the westernmost part of the metro tucked right underneath the shadows of the foothills, and the easternmost parts in what many joke about as “western Kansas” — allows intense weather events to pop up, sometimes with little or no warning. To effectively deliver transit services to its customers, RTD must be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws.
Meet Cory Schmitt: 'I'm really excited to introduce more people to transit' | Cory Schmitt, RTD’s Project Manager of Partnerships, believes his love for transit and mobility began on a light rail platform at 3 years old, holding his grandmother’s hand as they waited for St. Louis’s then-new MetroLink to take them from the suburbs to Lambert International Airport and back. From that moment through adulthood, he has loved boarding the train for the city. That memory, he said, launched a dream to work for a transit agency – and fuels the passion he carries in his new role.
Community members step up to donate items for RTD Gives
RTD’s Community Engagement team, employees and the winter parade bus hit the road Saturday, visiting three RTD stations to allow customers the opportunity to stuff the bus full of unused winter clothing for Broomfield-based nonprofit A Precious Child as part of the RTD Gives initiative.
The winter parade bus kicked off the day at Downtown Boulder Station before heading south to Denver Union Station, then ending the day at Littleton·Downtown Station.
By the end of the day, five 35-gallon bags were filled with coats, gloves, beanies, socks, base layers and more for children in need of warm clothing this winter. An anonymous donor even donated 20 Eddie Bauer coats at the Union Station stop.
RTD thanks everyone who contributed to RTD Gives this year! Be on the lookout for more opportunities to get involved with the initiative in 2025. Click the link below to see more photos from the events.

FlexRide operator shows professionalism, skill |
I want to put in an employee commendation for my FlexRide driver today. Her name is Ann Florez and she is a FlexRide driver in training. She was on time and very sociable. She drove with great attention to detail and was extra cautious. Coming from a customer service background, I admire and respect the level of customer service she gave this morning.

Bus operator extinguishes small fire along route |
Our driver Darrelynn Snider put out a fire on a Broadway median last Wednesday. She noticed it, stopped the bus, grabbed the fire extinguisher, stopped traffic and put out the fire herself. She then asked a person waiting at a bus stop for another route to call the police and let them know so they could confirm the fire was out and that she could try to get us all where we were going.
