Transit Police votes to create collective bargaining unit

With the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) having certified election results last week, eligible Transit Police Officers and Corporals would be represented by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #72 (FOP) for purposes of collective bargaining. RTD Labor Relations staff and Transit Police command staff will work with the FOP to negotiate and implement this first-time collective bargaining agreement for the agency in the near term.

Marketing wins AdWheel award for military recruitment campaign

Last week, RTD’s Marketing division received a first-place American Public Transportation Association (APTA) AdWheel award at the annual APTA Marketing and Communications Workshop in New Orleans. The prestigious AdWheels honor the most creative and effective marketing campaigns in the transit industry by system size.

Transit Police conducts fare sweeps at W Line stations

Keeping RTD’s customers and employees safe is the Transit Police Department’s main focus. On Feb. 7, about 20 RTD Transit Police officers collaborated with Lakewood Police Department to conduct fare enforcement operations along the W Line at Wadsworth, Lamar and Garrison stations, as well as onboard trains between those stations.

RTD joins anti-trafficking event today at Auraria Campus

This morning, RTD joined Truckers Against Trafficking, Denver Anti-Trafficking Alliance, Denver Public Schools and Denver Police Department for a news conference at the Auraria Higher Education Center. Afterward, group leaders discussed collaborative opportunities for preventing and interrupting youth exploitation.


Stuart Summers, Chief Communications and Engagement Officer, noted that RTD's bus and train operators play an important role in recognizing human trafficking. The information shared and lessons learned will support all community members, he saidmost importantly, youth. The personal safety and security of RTD's youth customers were identified as a priority by customers and stakeholders prior to the launch of the Zero Fare for Youth initiative.

Bus operator fills vacant trips on a moment's notice

Big thanks to bus operator Charles Blakney for stepping up on Route 0, Block 1, on Feb. 4, when the relief operator didn't show up. Blakney opted to stay on the route instead of the assigned run on Mall Relief Block 81, showcasing a commitment to improving connections and lives – especially since two Route 0 runs were already dropped.

De-escalation training is underway for bus operators and staff

De-escalation training has officially begun for bus operators. The training – required by the Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) and part of RTD’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) – is designed to give students the skills to de-escalate situations verbally. Training sessions take place 6 a.m.-2 p.m. every Tuesday-Sunday at District Shops. Bus operators: Still haven’t signed up? Speak with a supervisor today to enroll in a class.
