During National Engineers Week, RTD celebrates the contributions of engineering colleagues

Feb. 16-22 is National Engineers Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions engineers make to society. Individuals who pursue this work are addressing rapid technological advancements and global challenges. At RTD, we are fortunate to benefit from the skills and talents of many engineers.

To introduce some of these employees, we invited them to tell us about the work they do – and to identify what occupation they might have chosen outside engineering. See if you can guess correctly from the following choices, and enjoy learning about all of these and more dedicated colleagues!

RTD keeps cyclists energized for Winter Bike to Work Day

On Valentine’s Day, RTD team members braved cold weather to distribute transit-themed Valentine cards, cupcakes and transit information to bike riders as part of the annual Winter Bike to Work Day. Organized by Community Engagement, RTD expanded its presence past the Civic Center Park breakfast station in downtown Denver to include stations at the Boulder Chamber of Commerce in downtown Boulder and Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. Though the chilly weather and three-day weekend may have influenced the lower participation seen at two of the three stations, Boulder cyclists were unperturbed, as nearly 300 cyclists visited the station hosted by RTD and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, RTD’s transit-themed valentines were available to customers at Downtown Boulder, Union and Civic Center stations.

Kudos goout to the volunteers who joined RTD at the Civic Center Park breakfast station. As Community Engagement continues its work to engage and inspire transit use, look for opportunities to join them in creating customer and community connections. Requests for volunteers are posted in Inside Connections, The RTD Bulletin and the Hub.

Bus operator waits on customer dashing to stop

Last Friday night, I was getting off work in Boulder. I was running a little behind getting my store locked up. Operator Robert Lawrence saw me running across the road and waited on me. Thank you, Robert!

Operator helps customer alight closer to home

This kind young driver, Sean Devitt, is wonderful! I had to catch my bus an hour later than I usually do. It was very cold and I was at the bus stop for 30 minutes before this bus arrived. My knees hurt, I have a cold and I felt like I was frozen.
