RTD welcomes Gay Games representatives as Denver competes to host 2030 event

Let the games begin … in Denver! Up against only one other city, Perth, Australia, Denver is a finalist to host Gay Games 2030. If selected, Denver would welcome tens of thousands of visitors from across the globe for a 10-day event celebrating sports and culture, with a focus on LGBTQIA+ identities and allies. The mission of the Federation of Gay Games is to promote equity, diversity and inclusion through sport and culture. The organization notes: “The Gay Games is open to all, young or old, athlete or artist, experienced or novice, of any gender or sexuality.”

Coming this summer: a new approach for Sign Shop requests

RTD’s Bus Stop Program, also known as the Sign Shop, is capable of printing and fabricating everything from the decals on employee badges to wayfinding signs at light rail stations. This means that the shop’s intake of requests can be astronomically overwhelming. To combat this fact, the Bus Stop Program and Street Operations leadership reached out to Information Technology to help develop a solution to streamline the process and make it easier than ever for departments and teams to request items.

Robert Padilla, TIC Supervisor, 15 years

“I started at RTD back in 1995. It was a great place to work. It was awesome; it still is awesome. What keeps me here is that RTD really cares about their employees. They hire from within. There’s a lot of opportunity through mentorships, providing opportunities to go back to school, while using PDP funds to do so. It’s something that sticks with me."

I’d like to highlight Tameka McMillan. I had the pleasure of attending the ADA open houses at all four of our contractors' locations last month, and at each one, Tameka stood out. Her professionalism, deep knowledge and genuine enthusiasm when engaging with the operators were truly impressive.
