Creating beauty from tragedy: RTD rehabs US 36McCaslin Station Park-n-Ride after Marshall Fire

More than three years after the Marshall Fire devastated parts of Boulder County, RTD’s US 36•McCaslin Boulevard Station Park-n-Ride has been restored, not just to its original condition, but with renewed focus on resilience and climate-conscious design.

The fire, which began on Dec. 30, 2021, spread rapidly due to extreme winds, causing it to jump highways and cut through residential areas. Though there was no major structural damage to the Park-n-Ride itself, the landscape was severely impacted. Trees and shrubs were scorched, sprinkler heads melted and the irrigation system was rendered unusable.

RTD offers bus shuttles next week for H, R lines

RTD’s planned overhead wire maintenance work will affect H and R line service Tuesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 17. Bus shuttles will provide connections for customers along the I-225 corridor between Florida and Southmoor stations.

During the three-day period, maintenance crews will replace sections of overhead wire at Nine Mile Station. Regular light rail service on the H and R lines will resume on Friday, July 18.

April security metrics are now available for review

RTD has launched a Security-Related Metrics webpage as part of its continued commitment to enhancing customer and employee safety and transparency. In April, 3,077 security-related calls for service were logged across 5.5 million boardings – the equivalent of one report for every 1,800 boardings. Year-over-year security-related calls dropped by 28%, while customer reports of illicit drug activity declined by nearly 73%.

Street supervisor assists customers during closure of Union Station

On July 14, a friend and I were at the Union Station around 3-4 p.m. when it got shut down due to the "No Kings" protest and we didn't have transportation to get out of town. Your Street Supervisor Ernest Garcia was kind enough to get a bus sent for us and get us out of downtown. I just want to express my gratitude for this gentleman going beyond the call of duty to help us with our dilemma.

FlexRide operator exhibits punctuality while serving customers

I am calling because I would like to give kudos to my FlexRide driver June 28. Her name was Ann Florez. My pickup window was 10-10:10 a.m. and she was on time. She was very nice! She is the best driver! She also kept the temperature just right on the bus.

SBO Office launches training for small, local firms

The Civil Rights Division's Small Business Opportunity Office (SBO) has successfully launched a new set of trainings dedicated to educate and support small and local firms. On June 26, participants from 35 firms attended the first of these training sessions, time dedicated to learn best practices to develop a successful bid or proposal.

RTD project managers, directors and key staff from Contracting and Procurement, Capital Programs and the SBO Office led sessions around topics related to reviewing instructions, technical aspects, pricing, required experience, budget plans, equipment and compliance aspects, to better prepare participants when putting together required documents responding to bids and proposals.

Participants met at RTD headquarters and counted on the expertise and direction of Kim Neyrinck, Ron Posey, Kevin Diviness, Brenda Leo, Ron Bibeau and Alexis Serrano. RTD has continually proven its efforts in fostering the participation of small and local usinesses in agency projects or contract solicitations.

Through July 26: Donate school supplies for children in need

Through RTD Gives, the agency is collecting school supplies in partnership with Broomfield nonprofit A Precious Child to support local students who need a helping hand.

Here’s why donations make a difference:

  • In RTD’s eight-county service area, more than 300,000 children are living in need, facing barriers that make it harder for them to succeed
  • Having basic school supplies increases classroom participation, confidence and attendance
  • A Precious Child distributed more than 12,000 backpacks last year

Join the effort and help make a difference in students’ lives this school year. Collection bins are located at each RTD facility location and sales outlet, and items will be collected through Saturday, July 26.
