Organizational Design and Workplace Assessment's final report available | Earlier this year, RTD embarked on a months-long, comprehensive organizational assessment to identify areas of strength and pinpoint opportunities for improvement. This process was led by a team of consultants with subject-matter expertise in organizational design and culture. |
The final report is now available online, along with a video from RTD's General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson. Watch the video to learn more about the five thematic challenges and recommendations identified in the report.

Development and Training celebrates completion of manager and supervisor training | Two weeks ago today, the last employees participating in manager and supervisor training rose from their seats in the final class to claim completion certificates, stand beneath a balloon arch, and pose for a photo. The moment marked a milestone for each of the more than 480 RTD employees who took the training – and for the agency’s reimagined Development and Training Division, which had worked for nearly a year to make it possible.
Video investigations specialist’s work helps end vandalism spree | With a service area as large as RTD’s, it is virtually impossible for Transit Police officers to be everywhere at all times. Thankfully, the dedicated team in Video Investigations can keep an eye on the system – and for one video investigations specialist, her attentiveness and keen eye to details prevented a vandalism spree from getting worse.
Unit Shop employees receive 40-year service awards | On June 20, the team at District Shops took part in a unique celebration, honoring more than 120 total years of service with RTD by three Unit Shop colleagues: Mark Deay-Reusch, Mitch Decent and Harry Riddle.
RTD Board approves TABOR ballot initiative |
The RTD Board of Directors adopted a resolution last night to submit a ballot question to eligible voters that would allow RTD to remain exempt from the limitations of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR).

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act: a significant milestone for transportation equity |
In July, RTD celebrates the 60th anniversary of one of the most significant and impactful pieces of legislation passed, the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The passage of this landmark law was a turning point in American history, marking a decisive step toward ending discrimination and promoting equality for all citizens. Its profound impact extends across various sectors, including transportation equity, ensuring that all individuals have equal access to public transportation and the opportunities it provides.

RTD's first Pride Parade yields great employee turnout |
On Sunday, more than 50 RTD representatives from departments that included Transit Police, Operations, General Counsel, and Communications and Engagement, as well as Board Directors Michael Guzman and Paul Rosenthal, marched in the heat to showcase RTD’s pride in the community. The Coors Light Denver Pride Parade, celebrating its 50th year, ended in Civic Center Park at PrideFest, featuring hundreds of vendors, performers and exhibitors.
| Dancing alongside a wrapped bus design created by RTD graphic and web designer Pat Garcia, marchers adorned with Pride T-shirts carried a custom banner and signs celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. The bus also held rainbow balloon arches, streamers and speakers playing pop songs that left the crowd dancing. Onlookers were ecstatic about RTD’s presence, shouting words of encouragement and appreciation for the services the agency provides. | This was RTD’s first year participating in the parade – but certainly not the last! Watch for other ways this year to volunteer with the Community Engagement team. Watch a video recap from the parade. | |
As of Tuesday, all speed restrictions between Belleview and Orchard stations have been lifted.

In the video above, General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson expresses thanks to RTD employees for their support of customers and hard work during the temporary speed restrictions along the Southeast Corridor.

Platte bus operator’s approach to his work sets the ‘gold standard’ |
Richard Jarosz is the gold standard of bus operators. Without fail, he goes the extra mile. Greets everyone cheerfully when they get on the bus. Gives a person a quick moment to get in their seat, along with not hitting the numerous bumps in the bus lane hard, so people don't fall or get shaken.

Impact Team’s assistance appreciated during recent maintenance work on A Line |
I wanted to provide some feedback with regard to our Impact Team for the bus bridge that was set up on the A Line to assist Union Pacific Railroad with their maintenance work. I was on the alignment checking the crossings and the stations when I ran into Information Specialist Cali Vialpando on our Impact Team at Central Park Station.

Ukrainian leader tours divisions, discusses transit
On Friday, June 21, RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson welcomed Mykola Vavryshchuk, the Deputy Mayor of Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, to RTD for a visit and tour. Vavryshchuk oversees mass transit in his western Ukrainian city of more than 300,000 residents. During his visit, Vavryshchuk learned about RTD’s bus and rail services, maintenance efforts, finances, and employee recruitment and retention initiatives. He toured Mariposa and District Shops to learn about RTD’s light rail and bus services. Staff at each facility answered his questions and discussed RTD’s planning and operations.
Vavryshchuk connected with RTD leadership earlier this year to arrange his agency visit. He told RTD that, while his city’s operational environment and service options are different, he is taking back a number of best practices and ideas to consider implementing.

Employee H drives to be eliminated in July |
RTD will be eliminating individual H drives to improve information governance practices and asset management, in alignment with the Back to Basics strategic initiative. H drives were previously provided to employees as a personal work-related file storage location. With the introduction and use of OneDrive, Teams and Laserfiche, these drives are no longer an appropriate place to store records.
