Diversity Spotlight: Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together

Diversity Spotlight celebrates the diversity of RTD employees and the larger community that RTD serves and fosters an appreciation of our social and cultural similarities and differences. Diversity Spotlight supports RTD’s values of passion, respect, diversity, trustworthiness, collaboration and ownership.

Each May, we pause to recognize Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month — a time not only to celebrate culture and history, but also to reflect on the enduring power of community. This year’s theme, “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together,” invites us to look beyond individual contributions and instead consider the collective force that has shaped generations — through resilience, advocacy, and shared purpose.

Transit Police launch Bus and Rail Impact Team to patrol hot spots

Transit Police have introduced a new safety initiative to increase officer presence and provide more customer support across the transit system. The Bus and Rail Impact Team (BRIT) deploys RTD-PD officers to locations identified through security-related data to conduct focused patrols and support high-volume event security. BRIT patrols are over and above those already occurring within the district. Cmdr. Jonathan Holloway, who oversees the team, said BRIT’s deployment areas are reviewed and adjusted regularly.

Aurora groundbreaking marks the next phase of East Colfax BRT

A major step toward faster, more reliable transit along one of the region’s busiest corridors took place Friday as RTD and project partners broke ground on the Aurora segment of East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). This milestone marks the beginning of end-to-end construction, happening simultaneously from Denver to Aurora. The beginning of the final BRT segment advances construction across all five segments, reflecting steady progress toward shorter travel times, improved accessibility, and a more dependable connection to jobs, businesses, and community destinations.

Retiring East Metro Division Manager honored for his service

On Friday, staff from across Bus Operations gathered at East Metro to congratulate East Metro Division Manager Daniel Seifert on his retirement. Staff enjoyed hot dogs, snacks, ice cream, and cake while hearing remarks from Seifert about his tenure at RTD. General Superintendent of Bus Transportation Chris Deines congratulated Seifert on a great career and presented him with a custom sign and license plate commemorating his service.

RTD hosts DNC delegates for Denver site selection tour

On Tuesday, a delegation from the Democratic National Committee arrived at Denver International Airport for a site selection tour. Denver is a finalist to host the next Democratic National Convention, which would take place Aug. 7-10, 2028. This week’s visit gives RTD the opportunity to show off the expansion of services put into place over the past two decades, including the A Line from the airport to the heart of downtown, Denver Union Station.

Delegates were greeted at the airport by Betsy Hinojosa, Amerie Gagliardi, Sam Lewis, Cory Schmitt, Moudupe Aquai, Maria Rouco, leadership from Denver Transit Operators, and Debra A. Johnson. Upon arriving at Denver Union Station, delegates were welcomed by partners from Visit Denver and given a tour of the facilities by Jessie Carter, Steve Martingano, and Dave Jensen.

Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Chicago are among the other finalists vying to host an event that would bring thousands of visitors to their city for nearly a full week. The selected city is expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2027.

The agency is proud to spotlight our exceptional workforce who go above and beyond in their roles and embody RTD’s core values. Join us in celebrating colleagues who personify the values of passion, respect, diversity, trustworthiness, collaboration, and ownership.

Information specialist shares her generous spirit with colleagues, customers

I want to express my sincerest appreciation for PBX Information Specialist Cynthia Fernandez at the Blake Street office front desk. She welcomes visitors with a kind, hospitable spirit. She answers questions all day from visitors about job openings, transit services, and pass programs and accepts deliveries.

Street supervisor helps customer get to destination due to blocked road

I was waiting for the bus at 12th and Washington streets when street supervisor Paul Gaschler pulled up in his vehicle and asked me if I wanted a ride because 12th and Logan streets were blocked, so my bus wasn't coming for a while. He took me to my stop at Wewatta Avenue and 20th Street.

May’s Operator of the Month is Endale Begosew from Boulder Division! Begosew was chosen for his quick action to prevent a tense situation between customers from escalating further and ensuring everyone on board remained safe. An argument between two customers was de-escalated when Begosew safely stopped the bus and asked the two to get off. Thanks to his actions, all customers onboard were kept safe from any potential harm.

From Cybersecurity: Handling wrong number text scams

Ever received a text from an unknown phone number that seemed like it was meant for someone else? It may say something like, "Hey, are we still on for lunch?" or "I'm so sorry I missed your call." While the first instinct may be to reply and let them know they have the wrong number, it’s important to use caution before responding.

Since then, she has held several roles and worked on a wide variety of contracts, including the Access-on-Demand program; On-Call Bridge Maintenance Services, diesel and unleaded fuel; and Information Technology software, equipment, and service-level agreements. In her free time, she enjoys reading fiction, playing computer games, and going on road trips with her family to state and national parks.

Marla Bainbridge

Bainbridge comes from the private sector and brings 15 years of procurement experience. Since joining RTD two years ago, she has focused on learning all the nuances of public procurement. Outside of work, Bainbridge enjoys crafting and spending time in her garden. She also fosters dogs for a local rescue and has a lifelong soft spot for animals.
