With Election Day approaching, Transit Police works to support RTD customers, election security

RTD announced earlier this month that it is offering two Zero Fare to Vote days this year, to encourage voter participation in Tuesday’s general election. Behind the scenes, Transit Police is working in support of election security and to support RTD customers, with higher ridership anticipated on the zero-fare days. Our colleagues in that department took time this week to provide details about their work.

Speed restrictions lifted between Oxford·City of Sheridan, Englewood stations

D Line trains have resumed normal speeds along this segment of the Southwest Corridor. The 10-mile-per-hour speed restrictions were implemented over the summer and remained in place until necessary maintenance work could be completed. Along the D Line, two speed restrictions remain in place, causing moderate delays in total travel time along the corridor.

RTD celebrates Halloween at BOOnion Station

Last Thursday, RTD representatives from Bus Operations, Community Engagement, Transit Police, Customer Care and Capital Programs handed out candy to hundreds of children and families at the 10th annual BOOnion Station Trick-or-Treat Street Parade.

 

RTD hosted a pumpkin-patch-themed booth at Union Station featuring pumpkins painted by Customer Care employees. Alongside the candy, children enjoyed stickers, junior Transit Police badges and transit-themed trading cards. Click the link below to view photos from the event.

GM/CEO joins leaders to host USDOT Deputy Secretary

On Oct. 23, RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson joined Denver Mayor Mike Johnston; Amy Ford, Executive Director of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI); and Shoshana Lew, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in hosting a visit from Polly Trottenberg, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). During the visit last week, Johnson provided a tour of Denver Union Station and the future East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit corridor.

Promoting Zero Fare to Vote at a press event Friday at Union Station were RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson; Board of Directors First Vice Chair Peggy Catlin; Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold; Molly Fitzpatrick, President of the Colorado County Clerks Association and Boulder County Clerk and Recorder; and Paul Lopez, Denver County Clerk and Recorder. RTD’s Board of Directors this year approved Zero Fare to Vote as a permanent fare change to encourage voter participation. The zero-fare days in this year’s general election are Oct. 29, National Vote Early Day; and next Tuesday, Election Day.

Bus operator waits for customer at bus stop

I had difficulty walking, and the driver of Route 15L to Aurora Metro Center Station stopped and waited for me while I made my way to the stop at Sable and Bayaud. He is so kind and thoughtful.

Veterans: Enjoy breakfast with RTD in honor of your service

Join RTD in celebrating and honoring military veterans on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. RTD will express gratitude to military colleagues publicly and internally throughout that week.



To recognize RTD’s military workforce, all employee veterans are invited to attend a breakfast and networking event with the Leadership Team.

The event will be held at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Blake Street T&D Conference Room. Immediately following the breakfast, Dialogue with Debra will take place at 9 a.m. in the atrium. Military veterans are invited to stay and participate at the all-employee forum.

Civil Rights survey extended through Friday, Nov. 8

RTD’s Civil Rights Division has extended its survey through Nov. 8. The voluntary survey aims to better understand how frontline employees interact with customers who speak limited or no English and customers with disabilities.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month: A recap

In the digital age, security awareness is crucial, not just in the workplace, but also at home. To protect personal data and devices, develop household security policies that include using strong, unique passwords and keep social media profiles private.

Regularly updating software and devices is essential to guard against vulnerabilities, while staying informed about cybersecurity threats helps recognize potential scams. Securing a home network with a strong password and understanding the signs of phishing and other attacks are fundamental to maintaining personal security.
