Inside Dunwoody masthead

Dunwoody, Georgia: July 2025

As we reach the midpoint of the year, I’d like to share some updates on several key projects in the City of Dunwoody.

Veterans Memorial

Last month, the Dunwoody City Council voted to approve the renovation of the Brook Run Park Veterans Memorial, which will connect to and complement the adjacent Vietnam War Memorial to create a Memorial Plaza honoring veterans. This has been on our radar for a few years, but we’ve struggled with the timing and budget. I’m pleased we’re moving forward.

The new design includes a self-guided, open space featuring marble plaques, service flags, and a bronze Soldier’s Cross - a symbolic tribute with a rifle, helmet, and boots representing the fallen. An eternal flame will serve as a powerful symbol of our enduring gratitude and remembrance. We presented our design plans to local veterans a few months ago and received their strong support.

Dunwoody Nature Center Stream and Wetland Improvements

Environmental improvements at the Dunwoody Nature Center, including stream and wetland restoration and the construction of a new boardwalk, are substantially complete. This project was recently recognized with an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers – Georgia.

The new boardwalk is wider, higher, and safer, offering improved ADA access to the playgrounds. It also features new seating and observation areas to better connect visitors with Dunwoody’s natural resources. Environmental benefits include improved water quality and enhanced habitats for local wildlife. Construction fences will come down this month as we await some finishing touches.

Maintenance Facility

Construction is underway on a much-needed maintenance facility at Brook Run Park to support parks and public works operations. While not as visible or exciting as a playground or path, this facility is vital for the behind-the-scenes work that keeps Dunwoody running smoothly.

The current building, which predates the park, no longer meets the city’s needs. It will be replaced by an office building in the front and a modern, pre-engineered metal building behind it. The facility will include a maintenance yard, loading docks, workshop, and drive-in storage. The design also incorporates best practices for stormwater management and environmental protection. Temporary operations have been relocated to Homecoming Park and a parking area inside Brook Run off Georgia Way.

Living Spaces

This isn’t a city project, but it’s sure to get some attention. You may have noticed construction activity at the corner of the I-285 westbound exit and Ashford Dunwoody Road. The California-based furniture retailer Living Spaces is beginning work on a 110,000-square-foot, two-story showroom. Zoning for this project was approved three years ago, but construction was delayed.

Customers will access the store using Ravinia Parkway, where a new crosswalk will be added as part of the zoning conditions. Another condition includes the installation of a gateway sign, like the one at Georgetown, funded by Living Spaces. A rendering of the project is pictured here.

Welcome to Dunwoody!

Dunwoody remains a big draw for new restaurants, and we’ve seen a slew of openings across the city in recent weeks.
