Dunwoody always celebrates Independence Day in a big way, but this year is even bigger. I hope you’ll join us for some special events this week to mark America’s 250th anniversary.

Dunwoody celebrates America 250

Here’s a rundown of what’s happening:

June 30 – Dunwoody Reads for America 250, 3:30 p.m. Dunwoody Library

July 1 – Dunwoody Gives for America 250, 1 to 6 p.m. N. Shallowford Annex

July 2 – America 250 Concert, 7 p.m. The Callanwolde Concert Band will be back for an evening of patriotic music at the Brook Run Park Amphitheater. We’ll have concessions for purchase from NFA Burger, plus FREE Italian ice, courtesy of DeKalb County.

Be sure to arrive early for the Blue Star Marker unveiling at the Memorial Plaza at 5:30 p.m.

July 3 – Star-Spangled Open House, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donaldson-Bannister Farm

Dunwoody 4th of July Parade

The Dunwoody 4th of July Parade will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Presented by the Dunwoody Homeowners Association, the parade starts at 9 a.m. at Jett Ferry and Mt. Vernon. The Dunwoody Preservation Trust is the official Grand Marshal for this year’s parade.

I know most of you have your favorite spots to watch the parade. I enjoy being in the parade and look forward to joining the lineup again this year. 

Watching World Cup

World Cup fever is in full display across Dunwoody with many restaurants packed with fans for watch parties. I’ve especially enjoyed seeing crowds in the city’s privately-owned public spaces (POPS). These include the Dunwoody Village Courtyard and green spaces at Campus 244, High Street and Ashford Lane.

In a well-developed place like Dunwoody, POPS create new gathering spaces where you can linger longer. Beyond the World Cup, these POPS have a full schedule of events. We featured some of these in the most recent issue of the Dunwoody Digest.

2026 Millage Rate

City Council will hold a special-called meeting on July 1 at 6 p.m. at Dunwoody City Hall. This will be the third and final public hearing for establishing the 2026 millage rate. The City is proposing to keep its millage rate the same at 3.040 mills. The tax rate for 2026 will also include a one-mill reduction for all homestead properties, lowering the effective rate to 2.040. In addition, the City will continue to freeze assessed values for those same properties. If you’re interested in learning more about where your property tax dollars go, here’s a helpful video.
