LANDFILL LATERAL EXPANSION POP-UPS

Did you know that the Squamish Landfill is on track to reach capacity within the next six years? The District of Squamish is pursuing a lateral expansion to the existing landfill to ensure there is local capacity for waste management. HAVE YOUR SAY ON PERTH DRIVE ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS
|
|
Perth Drive Active Transportation Improvements
We want to hear from the community about an alternative approach to active transportation infrastructure on Perth Drive. A grant application to fund active transportation improvements along Perth Drive was declined in September of 2021. The District continues to seek funding for this project. Until funding is in place, for the short-to-medium term, the District can either remove the existing bike lane to add a sidewalk or leave the existing bike lane in place. In both cases, the full build would be completed once funding is available.

Colin will show you an inside view of the building and operations as he checks out the facility and shares his findings with the community.
Want to see it for yourself? Everyone is invited to our Public Works Open House on Wednesday, June 1 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. for tours, interactive displays, meet and greets, and an opportunity to win some great prizes!

WILDLIFE ALERT IN GARIBALDI ESTATES AND LOGGERS EAST
|
|
A Wildlife Alert was issued this week for the Garibaldi Estates and Loggers East Area. The District is urging all residents of Squamish to take extra steps this season to prevent bears from becoming garbage-conditioned and human habituated. It is the responsibility of each resident to ensure there is no access to non-natural food.
Let’s all do our part to give these bears their best chance of survival.
How you can help:
· Store totes in a garage or shed when/where possible;
· If your totes are stored outdoors, anchor them to prevent them from tipping;
· Reduce odours by freezing food scraps and store them in your freezer until collection day;
· Keep totes locked and secured until the morning of collection;
· Place totes curbside only on the morning of collection and never the night before;
· Rinse all recycling.

RECYCLING TIP OF THE WEEK
|
|
Clothing and textiles cannot be recycled in your curbside tote! Cloth can get caught in machinery, causing a safety hazard for workers, and damaging the clothing.
The best way to dispose of clothing is to donate it to a local second-hand store or use the clothing donation bin at the Squamish Landfill. If items can’t be donated, consider using them as cleaning rags. If there is no need for that, they should be put in your garbage.
