NOTICE OF ELECTOR ALTERNATIVE APPROVAL PROCESS

The District of Squamish is seeking elector approval to finance a new Public Works Facility through an Alternative Approval Process (AAP). The current facility is at the end of its useful life and is no longer able to support the needs of our growing community. To minimize taxpayer impact, the District proposes to use long-term borrowing to finance the project and pay it back over 20 years so future taxpayers help cover the cost.
- Residents who support long-term borrowing do not have to vote. No action is required.
- Residents who oppose long-term borrowing are required to register opposition by completing an elector response form by the deadline of August 4, 2022 at 4:30 p.m.

Landfill Lateral Expansion
The District of Squamish is pursuing a lateral expansion to the existing landfill to ensure there is local capacity for waste management. This requires an amendment to the Squamish Lillooet Regional District’s Solid Waste & Resource Management Plan to include explicit approval of the lateral expansion of the Squamish Landfill, as well as waste export out of the region (as the backup option).

ZERO WASTE TIP OF THE WEEK
|
|
Did you know that about one-third of what goes into the Squamish Landfill is compostable waste? By keeping that material out of your garbage tote and in the organics tote, you help to extend the lifespan of the landfill and to reduce the methane emissions from the landfill. Visit our website for more details on how putting food and yard waste in the correct bin helps achieve our Community Climate Action Plan goals.

HIKE INVASIVE-FREE THIS SUMMER
|
|
If there’s one thing to know about Squamish residents, they know how to play and don't mind getting a little dirty along the way.
From biking, hiking and climbing to off-roading and trail running, there remains a problem with leaving a recreational area with weeds and mud stuck to our bikes or our hiking boots that contain seeds from invasive species which hitchhike in our gear.
The Sea to Sky Invasive Species Council is reminding everyone this summer to please keep our hikes invasive-free by arriving at the trailhead with no trace of past adventures clinging to your gear.
