FREE SUPPORT FOR HOME ENERGY UPGRADES AVAILABLE TO SQUAMISH
|
|
The innovative Retrofit Assist service will assist homeowners transition to electric home heating. The first phase of the program will focus on home heating and cooling as it is one of the most impactful ways to address pollution from buildings.
Beyond meeting local climate goals, heat pumps:
• Act like air conditioners in the hot summer months;
• Are the most energy-efficient heating and cooling system currently available; and
• Have filtration to ensure healthy indoor air.
Retrofit Assist is a joint venture that started in 2020 in collaboration with the District of Squamish and the Resort Municipality of Whistler. The program was made possible with funding from the Real Estate Foundation of BC, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and BC Hydro and is facilitated by the Community Energy Association.

BE BEAR AWARE THIS SEASON
|
|
The bears are out and about! It's that time of year again when we all need to be bear aware and keep attractants away from wildlife. Here are some hints to keep both bears and residents safe this year:
-
Always use both locks to secure residential garbage and organic totes at all times.
-
Place totes curbside between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. only on collection day and never the night before (as per the Wildlife Attractant Bylaw No. 2053).
- Reduce odours by freezing smelly food waste in a paper bag and dispose of the bag on collection day.
- Rinse out all recycling material to eliminate food residue and reduce odours.
- Ensure chicken coops and beehives are surrounded by a well-maintained electric fence.
