Meet Dr. Jenn Burns, IMET's new Executive Director

Dr. Jenn Burns, a highly respected expert in marine physiology and ecology with a distinguished career in polar research and science leadership, has been named as the new Director of the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET). Dr. Burns will assume her leadership role on October 1, 2025.

Shark Pancreas Doubles as Immune Organ, Opening Doors to New Medical and Biotech Discoveries

IMET's Helen Dooley and her graduate student Thomas Hill have discovered that a shark's pancreas is not just for digestion. It also helps fight infections, a surprising find that could lead to breakthroughs in medicine, better vaccines, and new treatments while revealing new clues about how immune systems evolved.
