2023 Annual Report
Reflecting back on 2023, this has been IMET's biggest year yet. Our external research funding in financial year 2023 was over $9.5 million, up 64% over the previous year! We have major on-going Sustainable Aquaculture Systems Supporting Atlantic Salmon (SAS 2 ) award from the USDA led by Dr. Yonathan Zohar and the Harmful Algal Bloom Control Technologies Incubator (HAB-CTI) award from NOAA led by Allen Place.
IMET is shaping up to have our biggest open house to date! On Saturday, May 4th enjoy hands on activities, lab demonstrations, aquaculture tours, theater performances, and so much MORE!
We are so excited to showcase our UMBC Artist in Residence theater performance directed by Susan McCully, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at UMBC and Katie Hileman. At this year's open house, witness the blend of science and theatre on May 4th!
Allyson “Ally” Kido is a graduate student in the MEES program and an ICARE trainee studying ecosystem services provided by mussels in Baltimore Harbor, in the lab of Dr. Eric Schott. We sat down and asked Ally about her GSA presidency, her research and how it benefits the Baltimore community.
WJZ took some time to interview IMET's Allison Tracy (UMBC) about the importance of the IMET Winter Series lecture and how important the restoration of the oyster and clam population is for the community at large.
This year’s Winter Series featured two events focused on the topics of environmental justice and environmental research. These events brought in 123 people through IMET’s doors to learn more about Baltimore and engage in discussion.
