Dear disciples of Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran,
We celebrate another Epiphany this Sunday. In his baptism Jesus is revealed as the beloved Son of God, ready to begin his ministry as servant to all. In the waters of baptism we too are claimed as God’s beloved daughters and sons, commissioned for our work of healing and justice to all.
See you in church,
Pastor Gretchen
|
|
O God our Father, at the baptism of Jesus you proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Make all who are baptized into Christ faithful to their calling to be your daughters and sons, and empower us all with your Spirit, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Birch Pereira and the Gin Joints
Friday, January 10, 2020, 7:00pm
Historic Augustana Chapel
Tickets $25
To step into the soundscape of Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints is to have your fingers on a veritable radio dial. With deep sonic roots in virtually every style of mid-20th century American music - from americana to blues to jazz, soul and vintage rock ’n’ roll - the versatile Seattle-based band offers a rangy dial’s worth of songs for audiences who want to sock-hop in poodle skirts one minute, rock out to hot guitar licks the next and later hug their honeys under the stars as a car stereo plays into the night.
|
|
The band features skilled and versatile musicians who share the same love of the American song traditions and the desire to offer fresh interpretations. Whether as a trio or with the addition of a pulsating horn section, the band will take you on a sonic tour of great music. Tune in, fasten your seatbelts and prepare to be transported.

Grief Support Group Begins January 16th
|
|
Immanuel Lutheran Church will be offering a Grief Support Group starting on
January 16 and continuing for twelve weeks. The group will meet on Thursday afternoons from 2:00pm–3:30pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 707 W. Fort Street in Boise. You do not have to be a member of Immanuel, or any church, to be a part of this group.
Everyone who is interested in being a part of this group is asked to call Barbara Condon at 208-270-1658 for a brief interview. We just want to make sure that this group is the right place for you. The group size will be limited to ten people. It will be a “closed” group vs a “drop in group”. Once this 12-week session begins no new members will be added. We ask that those who sign up to attend make every effort to attend every week. This provides a more secure and trusting environment in which to share. However, if you know that you will miss one or two weeks out of the 12, go ahead and sign up. Just let us know that when you sign up.
During our 12 weeks we will be reading and discussing “Understanding Your Grief” by Dr. Alan Wolfelt. There will be reading to complete at home each week in preparation for the next group session. For those who like to journal, the companion journal will also be available. A suggested donation for each book is $12.00 payable to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Co-facilitators Lynnette Chandler and Barbara Condon look forward to walking with you during these twelve weeks of group support.

Confirmation -
We had a great time learning about where we belong and our influencers at the confirmation retreat this weekend! Our Next gathering will be February 9th at Hope. (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS COMMUNICATION.)
We would like to get any feedback about the retreat that you/your child has. If you attended, let us know what was great/not so great about the weekend, and if you didn’t attend, please let us know what kept you from attending if you already haven’t.
FIRST FRIDAY/REEL FAITH -
We also had fun last week learning about how people make mistakes and God loves us no matter what - so we should KEEP MOVING FORWARD. We hope to see you next month!
Lessons & Lattes
- We will not have Lessons and Lattes this month due to the school schedule. We will see you again February 2nd at 9:45am. We will be talking about Prayer for the rest of the school year. We can’t wait to have you back!
