Third Sunday in Lent

Worship Service Times
8:30am - Augustana Chapel
10:45am - Immanuel Sanctuary
Dear disciples of Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran,

It's the Third Sunday in Lent, almost the halfway point in our season of preparation for Easter. How is it going for you? Are you using this time to deepen your relationship to God? Or have your spiritual practices gone by the wayside or failed to even get off the ground? Wherever you're at, there is no time like the present to heed the words of Lent: "Return to the Lord your God." As we turn our attention to God again (the church word for that action is "repent") we know the joy of living in God's gracious and merciful presence.

See you in church,
Pastor Gretchen
Eternal God, your kingdom has broken into our troubled world through the life, death, and resurrection of your Son. Help us to hear your word and obey it, and bring your saving love to fruition in our lives, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Council Calls for Special Congregational Meeting
Date :            Sunday, March 31, 2019
When:           12:00pm
Where:          Immanuel Lutheran Sanctuary
Purpose:        Vote to approve ADA required elevator repairs

After 23 years of useful service the elevator in Immanuel is no longer working and requires a new circuit board at a cost of approximately $7,000. This cost was not budgeted and therefore requires Congregational approval to proceed.  The repair will be funded from general fund reserves.

Lenten Wednesday Night Gatherings
Join us for Soup Suppers at 6:00pm in the Hospitality Room Wednesday nights during Lent. Thank you to the Finance Committee for hosting on March 27th. Lois Bauer is the facilitator.

The groups below have graciously volunteered to help with our Wednesday soup suppers.

  • 4/3 – Women’s Circles – (Lynnette Chandler)
  • 4/10 – Quilters and Social Ministry – (Kathyn Pierce)

Following soup suppers worship begins at 7:00pm in the Immanuel sanctuary with our Midweek Services of Reflection and Healing . Step away from the busyness of life for a time of music, silence, candle-lighting and prayer, with laying on of hands and anointing for healing for those who wish. This year we will be learning and using a new liturgy for Evening Prayer entitled “Joyous Light.”

Lenten Children’s Activity will be led by our Children & Youth Leader Mary Riedl during the 7pm worship service in the Sunday School Room.
Devotions for Lent
You are invited to keep Lent at home using the devotional booklet “Lasting Hope” based on the book of Psalms. Each day features a reading from the psalms, a quotation to ponder, a reflection and a prayer. The psalms used are also those we will hear in worship on Ash Wednesday, Sundays in Lent, and Holy Week. During times of celebration as well as suffering, loss, and lament, the psalm writers turned to God and remembered God’s promises—promises kept and promises still unfolding. You are invited to pick up one of these devotional booklets at church for your personal or family faith-building time in the home.
