Dear disciples of Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran,
With Canada’s Day of Thanksgiving next week, and the United States Day of Thanksgiving next month, this is the time of year we naturally focus on gratitude. As Christians of course, gratitude is never confined to a single day or season. For us it is a way of life. The grateful Samaritan healed by Jesus in the Gospel this week (Luke 17:11-19), is a wonderful model of grateful living.
We see the signs of God’s abundance all around us, and then we turn to give our praise and thanks to the Source of every gift.
See you in church,
Pastor Gretchen
|
|
Almighty and most merciful God, your bountiful goodness fills all creation. Keep us safe from all that may hurt us, that, whole and well in body and spirit, we may with grateful hearts accomplish all that you would have us do, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Growing in the Grace of Giving
|
|
By now, all members should have received a letter in the mail from the Immanuel Stewardship Committee. And, we trust you have set aside some time to carefully read through the information provided. Our stewardship campaign theme for 2020 is
Growing in the Grace of Giving
and will conclude with
Grace of Giving
Sunday (which coincides with Reformation Sunday) on
October 27, 2019
. It’s sometimes easy to take for granted all that God has so graciously bestowed on us and entrusted to our care. We can grow in the grace of giving when we make an intentional practice of gratitude. As you give thanks for God’s blessings, then prayerfully consider how you can use your gifts of time, talents and treasures to further the missions and ministries of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Join us following both worship services in the Library as we reflect together upon the issue of gun violence from our Christian faith perspective. We are using a resource from our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) called
“A 60-Day Journey Toward Justice in a culture of Gun Violence.” The resource may be downloaded from our denominational website:
elca.org/60days, or you may request a hard copy from the church office. As we come together for conversation on Sundays, we will discuss the ways that the ELCA has spoken out through statements, social teaching and social-policy resolutions that address gun violence, violence prevention, and criminal justice.

During the Adult Learning sessions at 9:45am and 12:00pm on Sunday

Happy 100th Birthday Florence!
|
|
Florence Hoenk will celebrate her 100
th birthday, October 17
th. She moved to Boise for the birth of her granddaughter Hailey nearly 29 years ago, and has been an active member of the community since her arrival.
Florence is a lady of unwavering faith, a life thatis a tapestry of the teachings of scripture. When asked what helped to build her Christian foundation she responded with “Growing up there was never a question about attending church or Sunday school. It was something that we just did. I learned to sing hymns as a child.”
She was born in Crete, Illinois but has lived in seven different states. She graduated from the National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois with a teaching degree. One of the highlights of her young adult life was seeing President Harry Truman drive by. At the time she was working at a candy store and everyone went outside to wave at the president.
Florence is the mother of two daughters, Mary and B.J. Her circle of influence extends to many friends and family members. Her motto: “Keep moving! If you don’t keep moving you are a dead duck.”
