Dear disciples of Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran,
Last week our theme in worship was “Choose Life,” which means choosing to put God first in life. If you weren’t at church to get a card of spiritual practices to encourage your life in God, be sure to pick one up this Sunday.
This week our focus could be “Choose Joy.” Jesus tells parables to illustrate what joy in heaven and earth when the lost are found, celebrating the gift of God’s love for all!
See you in church,
Pastor Gretchen

O God, overflowing with mercy and compassion, you lead back to yourself all those who go astray. Preserve your people in your loving care, that we may reject whatever is contrary to you and may follow all things that sustain our life in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

New Americans Ministry - An Invitation - TODAY!
|
|
The New Americans Ministry Team was formed as we welcomed the Betoubam family into our fold. The Team has been searching for ways to educate, operate efficiently, and engage members as we seek to be Christ's hands and heart. We are very fortunate to have several highly regarded professionals meet with us for 90 minutes this Thursday evening
September 12 at 6:30pm in the Thomas Chapel. Nick and Laura Armstrong from Global Community Partners and Sydney Peterson who has extensive history working with refugees will join us. They bring their experience to help us first, grasp how best to support new Americans who face a daunting transition. We also ask for their help so that we may better understand what concrete, specific, and manageable roles we might fill. All are welcome. Please join us!

60-Day Journey Toward Justice In A Culture Of Gun Violence
|
|
Join us following both worship services in the Library as we reflect together upon the issue of gun violence from our Christian faith perspective. We will be using a resource from our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) called “A 60-Day Journey Toward Justice in a culture of Gun Violence.”. The resource may be downloaded from our denominational website:
elca.org/60days, or you may request a hard copy from the church office. As we come together for conversation on Sundays, we will discuss the ways that the ELCA has spoken out through statements, social teaching and social-policy resolutions that address gun violence, violence prevention, and criminal justice.

"Tomas Rodriguez plays guitar with a passionate originality, with an individual touch, drawing from the musical heart of the Latin world.” The folk and classical traditions of Spain and South America are richly evident in Rodriguez’ playing, but he transmutes them into a sound clearly, fervently his own". -Variety
Guitarist Tomas Rodriguez has been praised as “playing guitar with a passionate originality, with an individual touch, drawing from the musical heart of the Latin world.” The folk and classical traditions of Spain and South America are richly evident in Rodriguez’ playing, but he transmutes them into a sound clearly, fervently his own. His original compositions and his collaborations with leading musicians in New York City’s world music scene create an engaging groove, touching harmonies and mesmerizing exploration of the guitar’s rich background in the music of the Americas, Europe and Africa.
Such diverse inspiration is perhaps rooted in his unusual background. Born in Washington D.C., of a Spanish father and a mother from the Appalachian region of Virginia, Rodriguez grew up in New York, New Jersey and Boise, Idaho. As a child, he was inspired by his father’s record collection, which included everything from Beethoven to the boleros of Latin crooner Lucho Gatica. He learned to play electric guitar by ear from Jimi Hendrix records and later came to study classical guitar with Sharon Isbin at the Manhattan School of Music.
