Inside Immanuel Weekly

February 10, 2019

Worship Service Times
8:30am - Augustana Chapel
10:45am - Immanuel Sanctuary
Dear disciples of Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran,

What makes you happy? Sometimes we think it's our possessions, or relationships with no conflict, or life without suffering. But what the psalmist reminds us this Sunday is that what makes us truly happy, what gives us joy, is not what we desire but what God wants: love of God and love of neighbor. As we "meditate on God's teaching day and night" we "are like trees planted by streams of water," who bear good fruit and thrive!

See you in church,
Pastor Gretchen
Most holy God, the earth is filled with your glory, and before you angels and saints stand in awe. Enlarge our vision to see your power at work in the world, and by your grace make us heralds of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Welcome Betobaum Family! - THIS SUNDAY
On Sunday, February 10th we welcome a new American family into our congregation. There are seven members of the family—Blaise Richard, Cecile, Eric, Yolande, Geraldine, Josiame, and Charlot Betoubam. They came to our country last August from the Central African Republic and would like to attend our Sunday 10:45am worship service. They will need individuals willing to pick them up and/or take them home at 3433 Magnolia St. Can you help? Please contact our administrative assistant, Sandy, in the church office (208-344-3011;  [email protected] ). We will probably need 2-3 drivers each week (unless someone has a 7-passenger van). We are also looking for people to be part of a new ministry team to walk with the Betoubam family as they make Immanuel their new church home. If you would like to be a part of this group please contact Jim Grunow (208-571-6309;  [email protected] ).

Building Dedication and Additional Info
Mark your calendars as we celebrate our newly refurbished Immanuel sanctuary and fellowship hall with a Dedication Service on Transfiguration Sunday, March 3rd at 4:30pm. Assistant to the Bishop Rev. Phil Misner will be with us and the service will be followed by a reception

Please, until you have specific permission do not move into or set up any area. This request is for safety reasons and so that we don’t impede the sub-contractors as they finish the punch-list items. Please contact Mike Schmidt, Martin Hahle, Carolyn Korn or Lois Bauer (in that order) for specific permission to move into an area, even if it looks complete to you.

We would also appreciate a call to the church office at 208-344-3011 or email [email protected] if you can volunteer some time to help. We have a lot of groups who need help setting up special spaces. You will be matched with those who can benefit most from your help and abilities.

Additionally, for those of you who have been storing items at your home, please email Carolyn Korn, our Parish Administrator, [email protected] or call 208-344-3011 with a description of the items you have been graciously storing and we will let you know when we are ready for you to return those items to the church.

Endowment Committee Looking for Members
Here’s your chance to make a long term impact on the mission work of Immanuel! The Church Council is now looking for members for the Endowment Committee.

Candidate Qualifications
The Council is seeking individuals who have some of the following experiences or skills:

Investment Management, Marketing and Communications, Social Work,
Social Ministry, Non-profit management, Education, Fund raising,
Accounting, Insurance, Legal, or Banking.

The new committee will also consist of representatives from the Church Council, the Finance Committee, and the Pastor. It is anticipated that members will be rotated on 2-3 year terms to provide both continuity and an infusion of fresh ideas.

Responsibilities
It is anticipated that the Endowment Committee will hold monthly 2-hour meetings throughout 2019. They will review and recommend updates to the Mission Endowment Fund policies and procedures, seek Congregational input, and plan marketing and communications to increase the Mission Endowment Fund which currently has a balance of $10,400.

Background
Immanuel established a Mission Endowment Fund in January, 2000. At that time, the Church Council was appointed as the Endowment Committee. In October 2018, the Congregation voted to provide that the Church Council could modify the endowment resolution as needed for a more convenient or efficient operation of the fund. Since the Council has so many other responsibilities they want to create a new Endowment Committee.

Benefits
This is a wonderful opportunity to help secure Immanuel’s mission work and provide funding for future generations to share God’s gift of love with all!

Please prayerfully consider this service work and indicate your interest to Council President, Les Gieselman. Once the Council has chosen the members, an announcement will be made and the new committee will begin its work.
