March 2023
Inside KCU
Dear KCU Community,

Spring has arrived with many things to celebrate on our KCU campuses and in our communities. This season’s holidays include the celebration of Ramadan (March 22 – April 20), Passover (April 5 – 13) and Easter (April 9) and I wish each and every member of our KCU family the hope and renewal we come to expect of spring.

Our College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) students celebrated their residency placements following a selection process on March 17. Our COM Class of 2023 students have placed in a broad selection of specialties throughout the nation and at some of the most prestigious programs. Of the nearly two dozen specialties our students will be training in, 58 percent are committed to primary care. This milestone in their clinical training brings our student doctors one step closer to their goal of becoming practicing physicians. KCU is proud of their hard work, their dedication and their commitment to caring for others.

The College of Dental Medicine’s equipment installation, technology calibration and paint touch-ups are practical signs that the Oral Health Center is nearing completion. Additionally, hosting a number of accepted dental students for this inaugural class on our Joplin campus was exciting for our faculty and staff who have worked to make this dream become a reality for the last four years.

Our Kansas City, Missouri, community now benefits from the expertise of Ben Grin, MD, MPH, assistant professor of Primary Care, with his recent appointment as chief medical officer for the Kansas City Health Department.

In an interview on Fox 4 television in Kansas City, Amy Sickel, PsyD, director of clinical psychology training and assistant professor of Health Service Psychology, discussed practical tools to manage anxiety ranging from therapy to tips such as deep breathing.

Once again, I thank all of our alumni, students, faculty and staff for their service to the community through living our KCU mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve. You are the best ambassadors for Kansas City University!

Yours truly,
