ROMBELLI CROWNED 2017 MELGES 40 GRAND PRIX CHAMPION, ISHIDA WINS BIG IN PALMA

The Palma de Mallorca edition of the  2017 Melges 40 Grand Prix hosted by  Real Club Nautico de Palma was nothing short of exciting — Most especially for the champion Yukihiro Ishida on  SIKON with tactician Manuel Weiller.

This is only the second event for Yukihiro and clearly, he and his team have mastered the Palma racing landscape.

The Melges 40 performed phenomenally in Palma's great wind, clocking in 25 knots downwind at a wind speed of 28 knots. Easy, safe, and a ton of fun.

After a solid season including their second place finish in Palma, Alessandro Rombelli and tactician Francesco Bruni aboard  STIG are crowned 2017 Melges 40 Grand Prix series champions.

Richard Goransson’s  INGA with Cameron Appleton leaves the season on an upswing, landing two second place race finishes to secure a third overall in Palma. Valentin Zavadnikov’s  DYNAMIQ SYNERGY SAILING TEAM with Ed Baird completes the field of competitors.

A very special thank you to all the teams for an amazing 2017 season, (2018 will be BIGGER) and especially to Grand Prix supporters Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, Barracuda Communication and North Sails.

"We have been preparing for this challenge for quite some time. The first time we raced in the Melges 32 fleet was the 2016 European Championships in Riva del Garda. We really like the one design racing, Melges 32 is a top class in the sailing world, and the high level of performance is the reason we chose the Melges 32. 2017 was our first full season, so gaining experience and continuing to improve our learning curve will be key to our success in the future.
