A youth-focused recreational center is planned for an undeveloped property along Old Collinsville Road in O’Fallon.
The facility will be the new home of Gateway Elite Gymnastics Center and will include an indoor swimming pool.

A timeline for the project has not been set, as the city and CBB Transportation Engineers Planning must first complete a required traffic study.

O'Fallon moves ahead with Shoppes at Pierce revamp despite opposition
by Lynn Venhaus
January 22, 2026
Despite concerns from five aldermen about adding a Meijer Express gas station to The Shoppes at Pierce, a 9-5 council vote Monday advanced the revised plans to the Feb. 2 meeting for possible final approval.
The zoning amendment will return to the Community Development Committee for review on Jan. 26.
Meijer’s previously approved development from 2023 remains unchanged. The revised plan concerns The Shoppes at Pierce, a 6.68-acre parcel acquired by Meijer from GBT Realty of Brentwood, Tenn., last summer.

Two O'Fallon Police Officers earn VFW National Life Saving Award
O'Fallon Weekly Editor
January 14, 2026
The community gathered at SGT Charles A. Fricke Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 805 on Tuesday, January 6, to honor O’Fallon Police Officers Benjamin Sosa and Michael Shewmaker, who received VFW National Life Saving Awards for their recent life-saving actions in the line of duty.
On October 7, 2025, a female motorist had gotten a flat tire on a local highway, and a good Samaritan had stopped behind her vehicle to help. Shortly thereafter, another motorist collided into the back of the second vehicle, leaving the female motorist pinned between the first two vehicles and sustaining life-threatening injuries to her legs. As first on-scene and with an intern in tow, Officer Sosa was able to extricate the woman from between the two cars and immediately began to apply the single tourniquet kit in his possession on one of the woman’s legs. Shortly after, Officer Shewmaker arrived and applied a second tourniquet from his vehicle on the woman’s other leg until additional medical resources arrived. Throughout it all, Officers Sosa and Shewmaker worked to stabilize the injured woman while directing additional resources and maintaining control of the environment. As a result of their efforts, all medical experts agree that their actions to control blood loss and manage shock saved the injured woman’s life.
