A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
We are fortunate to live in an area where water shortages are rarely an issue. Nearly 700 million people in 43 countries currently face severe water shortages. Predictions indicate that within the next decade, at least 40 U.S. states will face water shortages due to a combination of rising temperatures, drought, population growth, and waste.

But there is hope -- research has shown that residential water use could be reduced by as much as 50 percent through efficiency.  Here are a few simple, low-cost suggestions for reducing your family's water consumption.

Construction Updates
Green Mount Road:  The Green Mount Road improvement between Regency Park and Highway 50 will include 4-lanes with a planted median and intermediate turn lanes. The project will also consist of a new signalized intersection at Cambridge Boulevard, which will serve as the main entrance to the new St. Elizabeth's Medical Campus. In addition to the street improvements, a ten-foot wide bicycle/walking path will be installed on the west side of Green Mount Road -- providing a continuous pedestrian access route from Regency Park to the Family Sports Park and the Illini Trail Bike Trail. These improvements should start sometime late 2016.

Milburn/Simmons Roundabout: This intersection is closed for the construction of a roundabout. The intersection will be reopened before school begins in August.

Highway 50: This project, which began on May 23, 2016, will extend the right turn lane and improve the intersections along Highway 50 in front of Wal-Mart. Construction will start this spring and be completed by fall 2016.
