#OISEBacktoSchool: A special message from Dean Erica Walker
Welcome, and welcome back, to the start of a new academic term at OISE!
I am always excited by the start of a new school year – the changing of the seasons for me sparks thoughts of all the joys of learning we’ll get to share together in the coming months.
This week, OISE will be hosting several orientation events for incoming and current students. I hope to see you at these occasions, which present the opportunity to get to know one another and to get (re)acquainted with OISE. Best wishes for the year ahead to everyone.

We will be welcoming new incoming students during OISE Orientation week from Wednesday, September 6 to Friday, September 8, 2023.
New students will receive a welcome address from Dean Walker in the OISE auditorium starting at 10 a.m., proceeded by an Information Fair in the OISE Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year, OISE Orientation will be held exclusively onsite, and we hope to have roughly 200 students in attendance. Throughout the week, students will also participate in a number of events held by their Departments.
Please refer to the following link for more details and updates regarding OISE Orientation, and we encourage you to share in welcoming our new students!

Centre for Leadership and Diversity
4th Annual International Conference
Taking place on Oct. 13 and 14 at OISE, The 4th Annual CLD Conference challenges educational leaders to ask alternative questions about theorizing and leadership practice.
By examining who leadership is for and for what purpose; researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and community members are encouraged to challenge taken-for-granted norms and practices in educational leadership, and advance praxis in support of equitable outcomes.
We hope to see you in person or online!

Staff at OISE Gear Up for New Term with Focus on Safety and Emergency Preparedness
The Working Together group, comprised of a number of staff at OISE, came together on August 30th in the Nexus Lounge for a productive mini-retreat in preparation for the upcoming academic term. A key item on the agenda was a discussion surrounding health, safety, and emergency response strategies at OISE.
Highlighting OISE’s commitment to a safe environment for all, the Space Planning & Management team delivered an interactive session covering fire response, first aid, emergency planning, and more.
To ensure the community is well-equipped in the event of an emergency, the group encourages all faculty, students, and staff to visit our site and review the latest version of the Emergency Response Guidelines (UTORID login required).
If community members have specific needs or requests related to health, safety, wellbeing, or emergency response ahead of this academic term, please be in touch with oisecao@utoronto.ca.
