A Letter from the Athletic Director

Final Edition Until Fall 2025

Saints Nation,

What a spring and what a year it’s been for Saints Nation! We close out the 2024–2025 athletic year on a high note, celebrating a spring season filled with standout achievements, including State Championships in Softball, Girls Lacrosse, and Boys Tennis (Alex Molda).

Altogether, our Saints secured an incredible 10 State Championships this year, 5 team titles and 5 individuals along with several close finishes. This is mentioned as well in this newsletter below.

This edition highlights not only our victories but also the Athletic Philosophy “Develop & Discipline Within Our Mission” that guides our program: developing character, commitment, and community through sport.

To the Class of 2025, a group of exceptional student-athletes, congratulations! We are so proud of your accomplishments and excited for all that lies ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to our Board of Directors, Administration, Faculty and Staff, Parents, and Fans, your support is part of our success. To our Coaches and Athletes, thank you for representing St. Thomas Aquinas with pride, class, and excellence.

A special shoutout goes to Ashley Leighton, a true behind-the-scenes hero whose tireless work helps make it all happen. Ashley, thank you!

We are filled with gratitude as we close this chapter. Enjoy your summer, and we’ll see you in Fall 2025!

Go Saints & God Bless,

David Morissette

Director of Athletics – St. Thomas Aquinas High School

Athletics Motto at St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas Athletics, we constantly talk about our values (which are aligned with the school's 100%), and you hear us say this all the time…. “Develop and Discipline Within Our Mission.” We wanted to outline what we are talking about. We feel that as coaches and staff, if we follow these values, success will follow, not only in wins and losses, but in life.

We also wanted to share a story that goes along with our motto, “Develop and Discipline within our Mission.” In a special moment before the State Championship Girls Lacrosse game at Exeter High School, our team started praying in a circle in front of our student section. It was quiet for a minute or so. They were doing this, including our student section. When they finished and broke the circle, the silence was followed by a big cheer! It was such a special moment. We know all teams participate in prayer before games, but to see this in action before the biggest game showed us what we really stand for at STA.

"Develop and Discipline Within Our Mission"

At St. Thomas Aquinas High School, athletics is more than competition; it's formation. As a staff, we are committed to helping you grow as athletes and as people, always grounded in the mission of our school and the teachings of our faith.

We develop your talents through hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. We discipline the mind, body, and spirit so you can meet challenges with strength, humility, and integrity. Our goal isn’t just to win games, it’s to prepare you for life, rooted in faith, and reason.

We feel that with committed coaches and staff to this motto, success will follow on and off the field.

1. Development with Purpose

  • We train with excellence, always striving to improve our skills and our character.
  • Every athlete has a God-given gift. We work to discover, sharpen, and use those gifts to serve others.

2. Discipline that Builds Character

  • Discipline is about consistency, accountability, and making the right choices, on and off the field.
  • We teach responsibility, self-control, and perseverance, shaping young men and women of integrity.

3. Faith at the Center

  • We compete with Christ at the center of all we do, guided by prayer, faith, and moral leadership.
  • Our faith teaches us to respect opponents, honor the game, and play with humility.

4. Leadership Through Service

  • True leadership means lifting others up. On this team, we serve each other first.
  • We prepare you not only to lead on the scoreboard, but in your communities.

5. Mission-Driven Success

  • Victory is more than a final score. Success means living our mission: growing in faith, acting with justice, and becoming men and women of moral courage.

Softball Wins State Championship with Walk-Off

St. Thomas Aquinas Girls Softball has been climbing the mountain for the past four years, and finally, 2025 was the year to reach the summit to knock off D3 three-time champ and NH powerhouse, Prospect Mountain. The dramatic 5-4 walk-off win (after being down 4-1 earlier in the game) with a sacrifice fly by Brielle Kelly in the bottom of the 7th to score Amelia Anderson, led the Saints to their second State Championship in school history.

The strong pitching of senior Abbie Gaynor and the solid play all around, especially from the young freshmen, really led this team to this moment.

Earlier this year, Coach McGrath’s Saints beat Prospect Mountain on the road 2-1 to end the nation’s longest softball winning streak at 71 games. The Saints finished the year 19-0 and gave Prospect Mountain their only two losses in the last four years.

This is the school’s second Championship in Softball history, with the last in 2007. What a game, what a season. Congrats, Saints!!

BACK-TO-BACK STATE CHAMPIONS - GIRLS LACROSSE

Girls Lacrosse finished off another remarkable season with a 15-11 win over Gilford to capture the D3 Girls Lacrosse Championship at Exeter High School. For the Saints, this is a Back-to-Back Championship, and they defeated Gilford both times (the only two state championships for girls lacrosse in school history).

St. Thomas ended the season 17-1 and a remarkable 34-1 record over these two championship years. This run began after falling to Bow HS in the 2023 Championship game. St. Thomas' only loss in the last two years is to D1 powerhouse Portsmouth High School.

Congrats to the coaches and players on the Championship! You represented everything that STA is all about on and off the field and deserve all the credit for this amazing run.

SAINTS PRIDE!!

ALEX MOLDA '26 – STATE CHAMPION BOYS TENNIS SINGLES

Alex Molda '26, the #1 Seed in the State of NH (including all 3 divisions), won the State Singles Boys Tennis Championship over the #3 seed from Bedford High School, 6-0, 6-1 at Southern New Hampshire University. It was an impressive day! A couple of hours earlier, in the semi-finals, he dispatched the #7 seed from Kearsarge 6-0, 6-4.

Thirty-two student-athletes competed for the championship throughout the week from all divisions. This is the third time in school history, and the first since 2000, for a Boys Tennis Singles State Champion for the Saints.

Alex, a junior, has already won 100 matches at St, Thomas and has never lost a singles match during the team season.

Congrats to Alex and Coach Molda on a remarkable achievement, and like always done with class!

SAINTS REMARKABLE 2024-2025 YEAR IN REVIEW

What a year!! The success at St. Thomas has been truly unmatched. There have been 10 Championships won and numerous top-five finishes, along with individual qualifications at elite individual meets.

You cannot have success without Coaches, Athletes, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Parents all pulling the same rope. The support and the belief in “Develop & Discipline within our Mission” (as highlighted in this newsletter). It takes a village, and we are proud, not only of the champions, but of all our student-athletes. It has been a tremendous year for everyone, and we couldn’t be any prouder of ALL our teams.

Just about every team made the playoffs, with Field Hockey hosting the first playoff game in 20 years! We have also had a few "Players of the Year" in many sports, along with numerous all-state nominations.
