Explore The Magic Of Finger Lakes With Family

By Melody Wren, Travel Writer

The Finger Lakes region in Upstate New York is packed with lots of activities to do to fill an entire holiday, sprawling across all 11 lakes. The area is famous for world-class wineries with vineyards and renowned for their stunning natural beauty featuring pristine glacial lakes, rolling hills and charming small towns. From the thriving culinary scene to the architecturally rich towns, this is a region worth exploring.

Chasing Waterfalls

One of the best things to do in the Finger Lakes is to chase waterfalls and gorges.

Watkins Glen State Park is the largest outdoor attraction in the Finger Lakes region. The two-mile (3.2 km) gorge trail puts 19 beautiful waterfalls on display. I would drive from Canada just to see the views again. With only parking across the street to pay for, it’s a budget-friendly active family outing.

If 19 waterfalls are not enough, the village of Watkins Glen has its own. She-Qua-Ga Falls overlook the town and are featured in a sketch in the Louvre. Also keep a look out for roadside waterfalls such as Aunt Sarah’s waterfalls on the way to Watson Glen.
