Student Affairs Staff Updates

New Beginnings

We’re excited to welcome and celebrate the newest members of our Student Affairs team and those who have recently changed positions!

Join us in spotlighting our Student Affairs colleagues and congratulate them the next time you see them on campus.

The next series of Student Affairs Realignment Roundtable Discussions will be held on Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1.

These sessions are an opportunity for you to hear from your Student Affairs leaders, new Council members, and Executive Deans. They will also provide a first look at the next stage of the organizational structure recommendations and insights into the rationale behind these decisions.

All Roundtable sessions will be held in person at the Highland Campus.

Upcoming Roundtable Schedule:

  • Monday, June 30 | 1:30-3:00 p.m.
  • Monday, June 30 | 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 1 | 1:00-2:30 p.m.

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, a time to honor the powerful impact lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other LGBTQIA+ individuals have made locally and globally. Join us in celebrating Pride with the Teaching & Learning Excellence Division’s (TLED’s) Cultural Mosaic: Pride Month as we recognize the rich contributions, resilience, and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Professional Development

As we continue with the Student Affairs Re-alignment Process, embracing change becomes a necessity. Embracing change, however, is challenging and often elicits a range of emotions. In the articles Embracing Change: Turning Challenges in Growth and How to Embrace Change and Personal Growth: A River Runs Through It, you will find strategies and philosophies for navigating change.

In the second article, the author shares an insightful poem, "The River Cannot Go Back", by Khalil Gilbran.

It is said that before entering the sea

a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has travelled,

from the peaks of the mountains,

the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,

she sees an ocean so vast,

that to enter there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.

The river cannot go back.

Nobody can go back.

To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk

of entering the ocean

because only then will fear disappear,

because that is where the river will know

it is not about disappearing into the ocean,

but of becoming the ocean.

As we each continue on our change journeys, may we “Go well, flow well, and stay well.”
