A MESSAGE FROM VICE PRESIDENT ALMAHDI

Happy Wednesday, Long Beach State! As midterms wind down and finals remain on the horizon, we hope you can take some time to enjoy some of the amazing upcoming events ASI has lined up for you, all of which can be found on our event calendar . One event that we are particularly excited about is Conscious Collection , a showcase of artwork from Cultural Affairs, LGBTQ Affairs, Pregnant & Parenting Students, Veterans Affairs and Women & Gender Equity. Conscious Collection will take place tomorrow in the Art Gallery, also known as USU-100, from 6 to 8 p.m. Stop by and enjoy free food, refreshments and an array of inspiring artwork from your fellow students! I would also like to bring attention to the remarkable accomplishments of Commissioner for Pregnant & Parenting Students Erika Rodriguez for helping to ensure the availability of high chairs in the University Dining Plaza. This achievement helps Long Beach State maintain its mission of promoting inclusive excellence, regardless of background or status. Additionally, I am proud to say that the pilot program for Pay it Forward, which facilitates donations for food-insecure students, has officially launched. Through this program, generous members of the Beach community can donate the standard meal price, $5, to any USU food vendor  from now until April 26. Donations will be distributed directly to food-insecure students through the Basic Needs Program , ensuring that they end up in the right place. Please consider contributing to this program and lending a hand to the students that need it most. All donations are appreciated! We hope you have an amazing rest of your week!

PRESIDENT'S CABINET Mondays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Monday, the President's Cabinet met to finalize their roles in Conscious Collection , which will take place tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Art Gallery. They also discussed their marketing and outreach efforts, which include tabling, discussions with professors, COTA senators and clubs/student organizations. BOARD OF CONTROL Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Tuesday, the Board of Control (BOC) awarded funds to: Triathlon - United States of America Triathlon Sigma Lambda Beta - CPR Awareness Day College Democrats of CSULB - Convention California Democratic Party (San Francisco) Katherine Scully - Southwest Anthropological Assn. LOBBY CORPS Thursdays - 2:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Thursday, the Lobby Corps met to discuss recent and upcoming conferences, their preparation for Advocacy Day and other student government updates. The body also discussed Senate Bill 366: Cyberbullying in Higher Education and whether or not they should support it in the California State Legislature. A vote to table the bill passed 5-0-1. The Lobby Corps also discussed an amendment to the California Constitution which would decrease the minimum voting age to 17. A vote to approve the amendment failed by a vote of 0-5-1. IN THE SENATE Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Action Item Summaries BOD #2019-35: Election of (1) University Student Union Board of Trustees (USUBOT) Trustee At-Large – John Fakava – ELECTED Due to his absence, John provided a written statement that spoke to his strengths and qualifications for the position. John was elected by a unanimous vote. SR #2019-11: Bylaw Amendment to Institutionalize all ASI Boards/Subcommittee Meeting Times (1st Reading) – PASSED This resolution seeks to solidify meeting times for all boards and subcommittees within AS government. The senate debated the effectiveness of standardization for each body and whether or not subcommittees should be included in the resolution. The amendment passed 17-2-2. Report Summaries ASI President Genesis Jara ­– reported on her participation in CSU Hill Day in Washington D.C. where she advocated for solutions to various challenges facing the students of Long Beach State. Promoted upcoming AS government events such as Take a Sec with the Execs. ASI At-Large Senator Reports – discussed their efforts to meet their constituents needs so far this semester, as well as their upcoming meetings, events and collaborations with other leaders on campus. Public Comments Yesenia Salguero – reported on behalf of ASI Communications to promote upcoming events such as Trivia Night and An Evening With Ken Jeong.
