AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Long Beach State, it breaks our hearts to have to share with you that another horrific tragedy has taken place. Last night, in Ventura County a gunman entered a bar in Thousand Oaks during "College Night" and took 13 lives. Much information is still unknown, but the students of Long Beach State stand with the victims, survivors, families and loved ones affected by this senseless mass shooting. If you are a CSULB student and have been impacted by this event, please know that you have services available to you at CSULB's Counseling and Psychological Services office.

PRESIDENT'S CABINET
Mondays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Monday, the President's Cabinet met to discuss changes to curriculum, Conscious Collections and student advocacy. The following report was heard:
- ASI Chief Academic Officer Lopez discussed the new General Education policy, graduation requirements, the Academic Senate Retreat and Beach 2030.
The following commissioners reported on the following:
- Daniella Hernandez (Cultural Affairs) reported on an event featuring a guest speaker and her continued outreach to leaders of various cultural organizations.
- Karla Rodriguez (Pregnant and Parenting Students) reported on events she has attended in which she has advocated for her constituents. Discussed her efforts to expand resources for pregnant and parenting students.
- Samantha Brown (Disability Affairs) discussed her advocacy efforts for disabled students on campus and provided details regarding her plans and goals to increase support for her constituents.
- Kyla Sazon (Women and Gender Equity Affairs) discussed the possibility of future events that will increase support for her constituents. Provided updates regarding the hiring of a new Title IX Director and efforts to raise awareness of the mental health of sexual assault survivors.

- Alyssa DiLauro, Heather Kincaid, Christopher Odell, Courtney Weeks - American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) 2019 Combined Sections Meeting

- ASI Treasurer Jesse Luna commended the board for their dedicated efforts to serving students.

IN THE SENATE

Last Wednesday, Oct. 31, the Senate met to give various reports and vote on the following:
- BOD #2019-22: Election of (1) Senator, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Ruben Alvarez – ELECTED
- Ruben Alvarez spoke to his extensive background as a student leader at Cerritos College and how those experiences will make him an effective senator. Ruben was elected by a unanimous vote.
- PA #2019-19: Confirmation of (1) Associate Justice Christopher Forestiere – CONFIRMED
- Christopher Forestiere described his experiences as an honors student, President of the History Students Association and Director of Operations & Logistics for TEDx @CSULB and how they make him uniquely qualified as a justice. Christopher was confirmed by a unanimous vote.
The following public comments were heard:
- Yesenia Salguero – reported on behalf of ASI Communications to provide details on events such as Festival of Frights, Dia de los Muertos, Project Chill and the Pregnant & Parenting Student Meet & Greet.
- Andrea Guerrero – expressed concerns over the firing of Kimberli Meyer and race relations within the College of the Arts.
