Hello, Long Beach State! Another newsletter means another successful week for our student body.

One of the greatest accomplishments of our students this week was the charitable efforts of our student organizations and athletics as they graciously volunteered to prepare over 25,000 meals for food-insecure children in Long Beach. Volunteers for the food-drive, which took place last Saturday at St. Anthony HS, earned over 10,000 meals for the ASI Beach Pantry through their tireless work. We thank them for their immeasurable kindness and hope they will serve as an example for all students at Long Beach State.

As fall gets underway the days might be getting shorter, but the future of our university looks brighter than ever. I hope you all have a fantastic rest of your week!

PRESIDENT'S CABINET
Mondays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Monday, the President's Cabinet met to discuss Conscious Collection, logistics within the cabinet and the progress of their goals. The following items were discussed:
  • Commissioner Daniella Hernandez discussed the screening of "Los 43 que Faltan" as well as meetings with a member of OMA and a former commissioner.
  • Commissioner Karla Rodriguez discussed past and future meetings with constituents and the expansion of resources for student parents.
  • Commissioner Kyla Sazon reported on a continued advocacy efforts, including meetings with Title IX directors and ASI Senator Kim.

BOARD OF CONTROL
Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

La st Tuesday, the Board of Control (BOC) awarded funds to:
  • Martin Martinez and Marissa Arguello of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for attending the ASCE 2018 National Convention.
  • CSULB Rowing Team for partial funding of the CSULB Rowing Team Trailer.
  • Giacomo Sproccati for attending the 51st Annual Italian American Studies Association Conference.
  • Anna Von Haumeder for the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
  • Claire Carlson, Micah Feri and Reema Tominna for attending the Neuroscience 2018 Annual Meeting.
  • Inter-Fraternity Council - Greek Sing for a facility fee waiver.
  • Students in Fashion - Campus Couture for a facility fee waiver.

The board also heard reports from the following people:
  • ASI Treasurer Luna reported on a Feed a Need event on Oct. 6.
  • An ASI Senate Representative reported that tickets for the Fight Child Hunger event are sold out.
  • ASI Executive Director Richard Haller reported on audits and the search for a new accounting manager.

LOBBY CORPS
Thursdays - 2:30 p.m. (USU 234)

The Lobby Corps met last Thursday to discuss tabling, CSSA and on-campus housing. They continue to focus their efforts on civic engagement and voter registration.

Members of Lobby Corps reported on continuing voter registration efforts, funding for CSU SJEC, past meetings and future meetings.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT UNION BOARD OF TRUSTEES
First Fridays - 1 p.m. (USU 234)

The USUSBOT met last Friday and heard reports from various segments of the LBSU community including alumni relations, the university and USU management. The board also approved the removal and disposal of the old marquee outside Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

IN THE SENATE
Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Wednesday, the Senate elected Ariana Faizi and Candys Redd to the become Students At-Large on the Social Justice and Equity Committee. The following reports were heard:

  • ASI Treasurer Jesse Luna reported on updates on the Board of Control including the lease for The Beach on 2nd, allocation of funds and goals for the near future.
  • ASI Chief Justice Robina Henson reported on continuing survey efforts on campus. Encourage awareness of grade appeals and voter registration.
  • ASI Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Daniella Hernandez provided details on continuing voter registration efforts.
  • ASI Executive Director Richard Haller provided updates involving ASI Communications, USU vendors, upcoming events and continued maintenance on campus.
  • ASI College Senators reported on past meetings, upcoming events, student concerns and goals for their respective colleges.
