A MESSAGE
FROM VICE PRESIDENT ALMAHDI
I hope you have all had a smooth beginning to the fall semester. As the academic year continues, your student leaders are constantly searching for new ways to connect with students. Our underlying message is that student government is here to advocate on your behalf, and in turn, improve student life in as many ways as possible. I can assure you that we will continue the progress we've made this year

A prime example of such service came from Dr. Ingrid Martin and her cohort, a master’s program here at Long Beach State, that has graciously donated personal funds to provide meals for the ASI Beach Pantry and Emergency Intervention and Wellness Program. The Emergency Intervention and Wellness Program provides emergency housing, meals, counseling and more to at-risk students. We are extremely grateful for their act of kindness and hope it will serve as an example for all of us to strive to achieve. Read more about the program here .

The continued efforts of everyone at Long Beach State never cease to amaze me. I am looking forward to getting to know more of my fellow students and participating in a fantastic year!

PRESIDENT'S CABINET
Mondays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Monday, the President's Cabinet held their third meeting of the semester. The team has the following updates to share:
  • Commissioner Ortiz is focused on identifying the concerns of the undocumented student community in order to better serve her constituents
  • Commissioner Wynn continues to construct the framework for the highly anticipated Environmental Justice Fair coming in spring 2019
  • Commissioner Lim is planning an international photo contest that will give international students a place to submit their photos and share their experiences
  • Commissioner Napoles and Commissioner Olvera are working closely with CAPS in an effort to bring more trans resources to campus
  • Conscious Collection planning is underway for this fall; the event will showcase the various pieces of art in different mediums from a diverse range of communities

BOARD OF CONTROL
Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

La st Tuesday, the Board of Control (BOC) awarded funds to:
  • Ayodeji Aina & Leo Giannetta - Rocky Mountain Rendezvous for the presentation of their research to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in Laramie, WY on October 1, 2018

The board also voted to postpone a grant for TEDx CSULB until the next BOC meeting. They passed a decision to reserve 20% of the fall CYUF for recurring programs that missed the spring allocation cycle to be allocated at the discretion of the board. ASI Treasurer Jesse Luna reported on various meetings.

LOBBY CORPS
Thursdays - 2:30 p.m. (USU 234)

The Lobby Corps continues their diligent work to usher in a new wave of voter registration and education. Partnerships with ASI Communications and the President's Cabinet. Together they will facilitate the delivery of vital voting information to the student body.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 25, the Lobby Corps will be directing an event for National Voter Registration Day at the USU Southwest Terrace. All students are encouraged to attend this event and increase their political engagement at all levels of government.

IN THE SENATE
Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Wednesday, the Senate approved the second reading of two resolutions aimed at enhancing ASI's outreach efforts. The board also heard reports from ASI President Genesis Jara, Senator Prudenico Gonzalez, Senator McDonald and Senator Howansky. Here is a summary of the Senate's actions:
  • Passed SR #2019-01: 100 Classes in 100 Days - 2nd Reading
  • An initiative that requires all ASI officers to collectively visit 100 classrooms within the first 100 days of the semester.
  • Passed SR #2019-02: 50 Organizations in 50 Days - 2nd Reading
  • An initiative that requires all ASI officers to collectively visit 50 organizations within the first 50 days of the semester.
