A MESSAGE
FROM PRESIDENT JARA
Another successful week is in the books thanks to all essential pieces of the puzzle here at Long Beach State. We have exciting plans ahead of us, and I am thrilled to be sharing them with you.

We, as our nation's youth, have the future in our hands. I cannot fully express in words how important it is that all students at Long Beach State register and participate in your local, state and national elections. To facilitate this process, ASI has recommitted ourselves to continue to drive voter registration efforts. You can also register here for an easy, online experience.


Beginning next week, be on the lookout for our voter registration tables. Don't be a stranger! As competitors in the Ballot Bowl competition, we are hoping to meet and register as many students as possible - not just for the betterment of our community, but to prove that Long Beach State has the most motivated student body out of all of the CSUs. Come to support your democracy, become an active citizen, and help the Beach come out on top as Ballot Bowl champions!

PRESIDENT'S CABINET
Mondays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Monday, at the president's cabinet meeting several commissioners reported on meetings, goals, updates and events pertaining to the communities they represent. Additionally, commissioners will be involved with the marketing and sourcing of the art from their respective communities for Conscious Collection, an art show featuring works from underrepresented groups.

BOARD OF CONTROL
Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

La st Tuesday, the Board of Control (BOC) awarded funds to:
  • Delta Sigma Pi for the training and meetings of their provincial councils
  • Nathalie Nann - 6th Pacific Social Science Conference for the presentation of their research Running Head: First Year University Students on November 11, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand

The board also heard reports from ASI Treasurer Luna, ASI Senator Prudencio Gonzales, ASI Senator Canales and ASI Executive Director Haller regarding established goals and progress since the beginning of the semester.

LOBBY CORPS
Thursdays - 2:30 p.m. (USU 234)

The Lobby Corps will begin tabling on campus next week with the hopes of registering as many students to vote as possible. Other forms of voting advocacy will continue throughout the semester, leading up to the election in November.

Additionally, a ballot-drop off location has been secured at the Info & Ticketing Center at the University Student Union. Students with a mail-in voter packet can drop off their ballots any time before November to ensure their vote is counted.

IN THE SENATE
Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m. (USU 234)

Last Wednesday, the Senate approved the third and final readings of two resolutions aimed at enhancing ASI's outreach efforts. The board also elected several students to fill various vacancies. Reports from ASI Treasurer Jesse Luna, ASI Chief Government Relations Officer Bryanna Siguenza, ASI Chief Diversity Officer Sean Aquino and every ASI College Senator were heard.
  • Passed SR #2019-01: 100 Classes in 100 Days - 3rd and Final Reading
  • An initiative that requires all ASI officers to collectively visit 100 classrooms within the first 100 days of the semester.
  • Passed SR #2019-02: 50 Organizations in 50 Days - 3rd and Final Reading
  • An initiative that requires all ASI officers to collectively visit 50 organizations within the first 50 days of the semester.
  • Elected Billy Ruby to College of the Arts Senator
  • Elected three Students-At-Large to Lobby Corps
  • Elected Billy Ruby to Senate Representative for the USU Board of Trustees
  • Passed the Approval of Participation Agreement for the CSURMA AORMA Benefits Program 
  • Approves participation with the California State University Risk Management Authority in an effort to decrease the cost of benefits for full-time employees.
