ASI ELECTIONS
ASI has been proudly serving LBSU students since 1956. Every year ASI continues to enrich students' lives and enhance their educational experience and it wouldn't be possible without proper student representation.

Today is the last day of the Board of Elections Get Out the Vote   week booths. The last event is today at the Parkside Dining Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. It's not too late to get in on the fun with Balloon Monsoon, sandy candy and more!

IN THE SENATE

Last Wednesday, the board approved the third and final reading of a resolution in support of retiring Prospector Pete and dissociating the university from the Gold Rush era. The board also passed for final reading the resolution outlining their stance on various state bills. Finally, the board elected one Social Justice and Equity Committee Student At-Large, Justin Woolfolk.  
 
Chief Academic Officer Jordan Doering reported to the board that the university is anticipating a grant to help professors find affordable textbook solutions. He also reported the future construction plans for the addition of gender-neutral restrooms. Doering added that the university has stated that while the looming budget cuts will not result in any layoffs, there will not likely be any new hires.

LOBBY CORPS
Thursdays- 12:30 p.m. (USU-234)
Last weekend, Lobby Corps (LC) attended the two-day CHESS meeting in Sacramento and lobbied state legislature on Monday. During CHESS, LC discussed the CSU-wide tuition increase, the Dream Act, homelessness and mental health issues. LC and other CHESS attendees lobbied the state legislature in support of the below bills:
  • Educational Equity: Immigration Status - SB 691  
  • Foster Youth Cal Grant - SB 940  
  • Mental Health Counselors - SB 968  
  • Mental Health Services Act - SB 1004  
  • Financial Aid Shopping Sheet - AB 1858  
  • Board of Trustees Student Eligibility - AB 1887  
  • College Hunger - AB 1894  
  • Dream Loan Repayment - AB 1895  
  • Sexual Assault Counselor-Victim Privilege - AB 1896  
  • Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Prevention Training - AB 2070  
  • Emergency Student Housing Loan Program - AB 2784  

LC opposed AB 2248 Student Financial Aid Cal Grant Program, which proposes changing the full-time student eligibility requirement for the Cal Grant from a minimum of 12 units to 15 units.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT

BOARD OF CONTROL
Thursdays- 2 p.m. (USU-234)
Last Thursday, the Board of Control (BOC) approved seven student applications for the below programming and research.

  • Funding was awarded to the Black Business Student Association to attend the "You Are Worth It" conference and the Health Care Administration Student Forum for their End of the Year event. You Are Worth It aims to focus on the self-development, empowerment, mentorship and education of young women.

  • Travel Funds were awarded to three students who will be presenting research for the 2018 Western Psychological Association Convention in Portland, Oregon; the Pan American Health Care Exchanges in Portugal; and the American Society of Neuroscience in Riverside, California.

  • One Research Grant was awarded for the purchase of a high-voltage power supply needed to conduct research for thermal management technologies, such as inkjet printing and spray atomization in IC engines.

  • Lastly, a Facility Fee Reduction was awarded to Beach Pride Events for the "An Evening with Terry Crews" event.
