Dear Partners,

We have truly enjoyed meeting with each of you during this grantee meeting process. We appreciate the opportunity to discuss your proposals and provide guidance to help you submit a strong application. Over the course of these discussions, we have met with 63 organizations, and it has been invaluable to hear directly about the work you are doing and the impact you hope to achieve.

The power of partnerships has been a clear takeaway from our conversations with you all. During times of funding uncertainty and increased demand, organizations are coming together to share resources, encourage collaboration, and develop joint programs that will maximize impact. From coordinating food distribution, transportation efforts, and integrating healthcare and social services, collaboration has become essential to sustaining and expanding services for our D.C. older adults.

As we approach the final submission deadline on Friday, March 14, 2025, we encourage applicants to highlight how partnerships are strengthening their work and to reach out if additional guidance is needed. Thank you for your dedication. We look forward to reviewing your proposals and continuing this work together.

The Board of Directors and Staff of The Washington Home are pleased to welcome the newest member of our Advisory Board, Parveen Burchick, of Kaiser Permanente's Mid-Atlantic Community Health Team. With her extensive expertise in developing safety net partnerships, social health practices, and place-based healthcare initiatives, Parveen is an influential leader transforming equitable access to care and resources. We appreciate her time and perspective to support TWH grant initiatives for our community.

The Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Day Care Center has designed a specialized Musical Memory Café comprised of retired musicians with mild memory loss due to Dementia-related diseases in order to provide them with the opportunity to talk about music and participate in a DC Rhythm City Band performing with others throughout the District of Columbia.

Friendship Bench DC is an initiative by HelpAge USA that empowers older people to bridge gaps in mental health care. Inspired by the Friendship Bench model in Zimbabwe, the program trains older adults known as “Grandparents” to offer free community-based talk therapy to individuals of all ages on wooden “Friendship Benches” located in safe community spaces, effectively addressing anxiety and depression.
