Washington retailers’ safety inspection rate 780% higher than national average

Retailers have diligently protected their employees and customers by following the ever-changing pandemic safety and health requirements. And now, with most covid restrictions lifted, retailers are working hard to recover from and grow their businesses back. At the same time, many small retail businesses are receiving L&I safety inspection notices.

According to the OSHA Inspection Tracker, between January 2 and April 14 of this year, L&I’s safety and health inspectors have been conducting compliance inspections at a rate of 780% above the national average. Data also shows that 76% of those inspected were small retailers with less than 50 employees.

Our safety team can offer guidance to improve your safety system, employee retention, and your bottom line. Retail Services has launched a free Safety Ambassador Program to help you prepare for safety inspections and, most importantly, build a workplace safety culture.
