To improve or replace aging — and sometimes dangerous — facilities, rural Idaho schools must appeal to local taxpayers and clear some of the nation’s most restrictive thresholds for school funding. Despite urgent needs, most of these efforts fail, an investigation by the Idaho Statesman and ProPublica has found. As a result, students across the state must learn amid dire conditions.

Secretary of State Phil McGrane told Idaho Reports last week that state parties will need to discuss how to handle the presidential campaign and their national party delegates. He did say the 2024 legislative session would be far too late logistically for county clerks to bring back a standalone presidential primary in early spring.

CNN: Idaho AG rescinds opinion that said health care providers can’t make out-of-state abortion referrals

After being hit with a lawsuit over an opinion that said Idaho’s abortion ban prohibits medical providers from referring patients out-of-state for abortion services, Attorney General Raúl Labrador said last week he is rescinding the analysis. He said a letter from his office had been “mischaracterized as law enforcement guidance sent out publicly to local prosecutors and others.”
