Are you a recycling champion? The District of Squamish, in partnership with Squamish CAN and GFL, is conducting curbside checks the week of October 4. This program is part of a larger awareness and education plan aimed at reducing recycling contamination by clarifying materials accepted for curbside recycling, materials accepted for drop-off at the recycling depot, and materials that cannot be recycled.
Volunteer auditors will conduct brief visual inspections only. No contents will be handled.

BRENNAN PARK AQUATIC CENTRE TO REOPEN AFTER ANNUAL MAINTENANCE

Squamish Recreation Services is excited to announce that the Brennan Park Aquatic Centre will reopen on Saturday, October 2 with minimal restrictions and normal capacity limits.
What you should know:
- All of the amenities are now open for public use. This includes the hot tub, steam room and change rooms.
- All patrons will enter and exit through the change rooms;
- Lane swimming will be accommodated as swimming lesson capacity allows;
- Masks are required in all common spaces within Brennan Park Recreation Centre, including lobbies, washrooms, activity rooms, for those aged 12 and older.
- Proof of vaccination is not required for swimming lessons or public swims.
Brennan Park Recreation Centre and The 55 Activity Centre continue to operate under the guidance of current Provincial Health Orders (PHO) to keep our community both active and safe. Learn more at squamish.ca/rec.

Oceanfront Squamish Update: Sp’akw’us Feather Park
Sp’akw’us Feather Park construction has begun. Construction is expected to last approximately two years and is scheduled over two phases, beginning with Phase A which concentrates on water and upland construction. The fluctuating tide schedules will dictate when this work takes place and as a result work may occur outside of normal construction hours. This work is being completed with all necessary permitting and the public’s cooperation is appreciated during this initial phase of construction. Pedestrians may notice trail and/or road closures from time to time. For your safety, please make sure to follow signs and pay close attention to all road crossings.

Fire Prevention Week is October 3 - 9!
This year's theme is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”! Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action.
Fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk in fires – take some time during this important week to learn how to stay safe in case of a fire.

A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at 6 p.m. on the proposed amendments and definitions within the District of Squamish Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 2500, 2017, Amendment Bylaw (Wildfire Development Permit Area) 2809, 2021.
