SHORT-TERM RENTALS UPDATE: 2022 BUSINESS LICENCES AND TEMPORARY USE PERMITS

On January 11, Council endorsed a single 2022 call for Short-Term Rental (STR) Temporary Use Permits (TUPs) for residents who wish to operate an STR at their non-principal residence (secondary suite or coach house). No additional changes to the District’s 2022 Short-term Rental Regulatory Program were made.
TUP Application submissions are now open through February 28.

POTENTIAL SERVICE DISRUPTION IN PUBLIC TRANSIT FOLLOWING 72-HOUR STRIKE NOTICE

BC Transit is notifying its riders in the Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton Valley transit systems, that Unifor Local 114 union operating under Whistler Transit Ltd. and Diversified Transit has issued a 72-hour strike notice.
At this time BC Transit cannot be certain as to the timing and extent of potential job action and its impacts on transit services. However, job action has the potential to disrupt transit services and our customers’ ability to use the public transit services. However, handyDART service in Squamish, which is deemed an essential service, will operate with full-service hours on weekdays.

RENEW YOUR DOG LICENCE BY PHONE

There's still time to qualify for the discounted rate! Call Animal Control on 604.815.6866 and renew your dog licence over the phone before January 31 to save. In-person payments can be made at Municipal Hall on Second Avenue.
All dogs must be registered within 30 days of moving to Squamish and all dogs over eight weeks must be licensed.

INFRASTRUCTURE REPAIR IMPACTS
|
|
The District of Squamish will be undertaking repairs to a broken watermain on Third Avenue near the bridge to Squamish Terminals.
Timeframe: Work is expected to begin January 24 and take two to three weeks to complete.
Impacts: Work will take place on the shoulder of the roadway so impacts to traffic flow are expected to be minimal, however parking will be impacted in some areas during construction.

FIRESMART HOME IGNITION ZONE ASSESSMENTS

|
Spaces are still available to interested residents of Garibaldi Highlands, Valleycliffe and District of Squamish residents of Paradise Valley for a free Firesmart Home Assessments.
These neighbourhoods have an increased risk of wildfire and the District's home assessments are an opportunity to receive in-person recommendations from a Local Firesmart Representative on how to help reduce your home/property wildfire risk.

Garbage tote exchange applications now open
Applications for the 2023 garbage tote exchange are now being accepted until September 30. Solid Waste Utility fees will vary based on the garbage tote size you choose. A $50 exchange fee will apply.
Please note only garbage tote size changes are possible; organics and recycling tote size changes cannot be accommodated at this time.
