Rebuild Chicago
The Department of Housing has asked the Chicago Bungalow Association to be a part of Rebuild Chicago, a new pilot program that aims to rehabilitate vacant homes and place at-risk youth in jobs.
CBA will facilitate energy efficiency retrofits for vintage homes in the Program. These retrofits will lower monthly operating costs for the new owners of these homes. Additional benefits are improved indoor air quality and increased home value.
We look forward to sharing news about this work in the months ahead.

Over the years, we've been moved by the stories we hear from our elder members, specifically the women who have been in their bungalows since the 1970s, 1960s, or even 1950s. These women know the names and stories of everyone on their block, and they keep an eye on the activities of those around them. They tell their neighbors about our programs and others. They are the heart of their street. So, we think of them as moms of the block, or Bungalow Matriarchs.
If this resonates with you, we want to hear about the Bungalow Matriarchs you know. Or perhaps you yourself are one of these extraordinary Chicago women! Please email our Preservation & Resiliency Specialist, Carla Bruni, at cbruni@chicagobungalow.org.
